Video: 'Is Chris Daly Crazy?'

Amid the hubbub of the hard-fought District 9 supervisorial race, some of us might surely have forgotten that one of the most troubling areas in the neighborhood, the corner of 16th and Mission, is actually in District 6, Chris Daly‘s district.

In the above video, Bronstein at Large hits the streets to see what the citizens of District 6 think about their supervisor. Accompanying blog post sheds a lot more light and is located here.

chris daly. agh. ugh. i’m puking. just the name makes me gag.

but ya know what, the whole city just signed up for 4 more years (at least) of merry grandstanding by him & his band of “progressive” lackeys. they truly won the day….you gotta give em credit.

he’ll probably end up president of the board. can you fucking believe it.

our beautiful city….it deserves to be awash in shit and piss, in crime and lack of decent services, in corruption and ineptitude….because it elects people that want it to be that way. again & again.

    it’s a fucking disgrace.

(there was an interesting Nevius column this week, saying maybe i’m wrong about this. that maybe the new round of “progressive” supes aren’t that way…that maybe they DO want to accomplish something other than self-serving grandstanding. i hope – really hope – i’m wrong).

    someone was telling me…

they think the reason that these do-nothing “progressive” dopes keep getting elected is that the city is filled with youthful, optimistic, naive transients who vote with their hearts…

because they believe the rhetoric (who wouldn’t want to believe it?)…

and then they move back home or back to the burbs or wherever, long around 32 years old.

does that sound like crap? or not?

I don’t think “crazy” is the right word, more like, “useful” or “capable” or “realistic” &c. ad infinitum. He and his ilk drive ME crazy, passing nanny-state anti-smoking legislation while 16th & Mission is a place I can’t go alone at night. I love this city, my boyfriend just bought a house and we’re invested long-term in the ’110 in particular, but what can a person do when Tom Ammiano reacts to a successful gang bust by complaining about the state of our Sanctuary City? Daly loves those “end the war in Iraq” resolutions, but what good do they do any one citizen here?

I don’t know much, historically, about the Board of Supes, but it seems like everything Daly & Pals have to say is the stupidest, most wrong-headed thing I’ve ever heard. Why anyone votes for that man is beyond me.

  4. zinzin says:

meave i am with you. what daly really loves is self-serving grandstading, bringing hordes of meth and crack addicted folks to meetings support his views (i hear he’s a real…uh…. party guy with these folks too), and keeping the city in such a state that the cottage industries built on the backs of the homeless, addicted and otherwise disenfranchised can thrive. that means doing NOTHING to help the plight of the homeless, addicted and otherwise disenfranchised.

what can a person do? organize. protest. vote. as a fellow homeowner in the 110, i gotta say, you dont have history on your side. but there’s no real reason for it. homeowners and renters, rich & poor…everyone wants the same thing. clean streets. safe streets. politicians who are out for more than themselves and “defending” one single swath of (completely deserving) constituents who keep them in business by believing their lies.

more from me on those topics in the new year….

    here’s something else i read somewhere…

first, let’s look at the BoS. controlled by Daly & his lackeys. no idea how it happened but there ya go. let’s assume he gets to be prez of the board. totally possible.

second, let’s consider newsom and his run for gov. let’s assume he wins. stranger things have happened. if he wins, he’ll need to remove himself from the mayor’s office a year early.

if daly is prez of the BoS AND newson becomes gov, then (drumroll)

DALY BECOMES MAYOR, defacto, no election.

if the mayor vacates, the prez of the board gets to be mayor TILL THE BOARD APPOINTS A SUCCESSOR TO SERVE OUT THE TERM. gee…i wonder who they’ll appoint.

can you fucking believe it. i am not 100% sure of the exact details….but this is what someone told me…someone not without experience in city politics.

can someone tell me i’m wrong about that process? please..?

oh and btw…Daly’s a little crazy, sure. like a fucking fox. he’s a ruthless politician out for nothing other than his own self advancement. no one tries to get onto the BoS with any motivation other than the next political career move. any other assertions are a lie.

zinzin…you are right about so many thing but I hope you are wrong about that doomsday scenario!
That is dead on about the constant supply of transient voters who eventually leave SF when they “grow up” and leave residents and businesses with the results of their well intentioned but ill informed votes.
When you mentioned that it reminded of me of a conversation I had with a classmate at SF State back in the early 90s. He was so shocked when he found out I was born and raised in the City. Being from Sacramento, he said he couldn’t even imagine what it would be like to grow up here and he didn’t even realized that actual families lived here. I’m not a hipster hater but yes there are some of those that treat the Mission and the City in general as their entitled playground, with little or no regard for those that consider this place home. Once the toy gets old, they are out of here.

  6. zinzin says:

well guero.. thanks for the kind word. i hope i am wrong too. i hope i am wrong about even the POSSIBILITY.

far as the transients with no regard….i dont think it’s surprising. these kids come here to have fun. it’s cool with me. let em. one more puddle of puke on the corner or one more car in a driveway is a pain in the ass, but it’s a price one pays for living here. back in 1999 i was saying “the mission is the new north beach” because of all the inconsiderate bridge & tunnel folks coming in on the weekends.

i can even understand how Campos gets elected in D9. it’s not a big surprise. the mission is a lot of renters and transient hipsters and “activists” and recent immigrants, etc etc. and maybe he’ll do a good job. let’s hope so. there’s plenty to do.

what i dont get is how lackeys like Mar or Chiu or Avalos…clear Daly puppets… or Daly himself….get elected in those districts….all of which have a lot more homeowners, kids in schools, long time residents, etc.

probably because they all know the effluvia of the city flows into the mission, and no one gives a fuck about the mission.
