    Tortoises dig very well, in fact some hibernate in the ground. If it was an outside pet, it probably dug it’s way out somehow — ours did when I was young and it walked 2 blocks away before a dog bit a big hole in it’s shell. It had a really cool resin patch after that.

    My former boss smuggled two french turtles into the US once to bring them back. They were rescue turtles of some sort. I don’t think she had anything to do with this though
