Mission working girls read SF Weekly

Yep. I was walking down 19th Street earlier, crossed Capp, passed a couple of working girls. Here’s what one shouted to the other as they were parting ways:

SARA!! REMIND ME TO GET A SF WEEKLY NEWSPAPER!!

I hope Sara remembered. (I’m guessing on the spelling there, but the no-H thing just seems right. No judgement.) I wonder if they’re real into Matt Smith, or Dan Savage, or maybe the concert listings?

The point of this post is, I had no idea anyone read SF Weekly.

    They probably bought ad space.

  2. Ariel Dovas says:

Or if you’re a fan of Leaving Las Vegas then her name is “Sera”. As in metaphor.

  3. no.thanks. says:

pick one up every weds for savage love and comedy+music listings. all the other shit is garbage unless the bouncer covers a bar I know

I like their food and wine columns online. Their “news” is garbage. In particular, their cover stories irritate me. They go out of their way to pick the most “provocative” angle. You can count on the Chron to be sort of center-right, the Guardian to be leftish, and SF Weekly to just try to get your attention by baiting. Who needs that?

  5. Janey' Smith says:

No wonder the working class is so fucked. The SF Weekly is not even a locally owned paper. And their politics tend to prove it: more Pacific Heights than Mission Mission.

    • Their politics are what the readers are least likely to read.

    • Kimbombe says:

yeah, as the Chron it is… in the same fashion the examiner represents the progressive thinking of SF…

hope so you don’t find in your way the Chinese, Spanish or Tagalog newspapers SF produces, and probably are not to locally owned too.
and what about those ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX! or Univision broadcasting stations?
Don’t see anymore American Idol! Turn on KOFY!
We gonna made a new t-shirt?
“Like vegetables, I only consume local journalism.”
And then burn a copy of the Bay Area section of the NYT?

Come on, this is SF and this is an open market.

This cover story excluded, I suppose. They also had a good cover story with Pomplamoose a few months ago. So, I guess they do a good music cover occasionally. Most of the time it’s some flame-fanning bullshit angle on a trumped up local nontraversy.

had a look at one a few weeks back, it was all ads for pot dispensaries and prostitutes. Really, like 80% of the content was one of those two things.

  8. SCUM says:

I only pick up a Weekly or Guardian to check out music or food related things.

  9. I like reading the weekly because a. it’s free and b. when i am done reading it i can spend time looking at sexy ethnic massage ads. Also I agree that the food/music sections are p. ok..and it’s a pretty solid way to know who is playing at all the venues. This cover story about mc 13 gangs etc wasn’t bad either….OK IDK MAYBE I KIND OF LIKE SF WEEKLY?
