Salute your meme shorts

Here is a genius concept that, like Ghetto Scrabble or cute stray kittens, should be adopted into your own homes: YouTube film festivals! My friend Jerry J just curated and hosted one in his cool Mission warehouse residence. It included gems like these:

Sabre-toothed bottle

A word to the wise: when you are at a party and you are handed a champagne bottle that was sliced open with a sword, do not let someone else pour from this bottle into your mouth! One wrong slip could land you in the ER for stitches. Our hero Casey has demonstrated this as a cautionary tale to you all.

Knocked a pigeon out of the sky with a Frisbee

The Fog Bender was on the scene:

the other day i was at the park enjoying the sun and a beer and i heard a “thunk” sound followed by about 15 people all go  “OHHHHH!!”  i look and see a crowd gathering around a guy holding the pigeon which he accidentally knocked out of the sky with a frizbee so naturally i took a couple pictures and shook my head with pity for the poor winged rat.

Wow. That must be a 180-gram tournament-quality Frisbee. I just hope the victim wasn’t our majestic friend from last week.

Why shouldn’t you eat at Picaro or Esperpento?

A compelling argument I suppose, but Looking is Not Seeing, the site that first published the above picture, has a different reason:

I’d say don’t eat at Esperpento or Picaro because the food is pretty lousy.

Barometric pressure yesterday made faraway landmarks look real close by?

Scope St. Mary’s Cathedral, all the way up at Geary, looking like it’s looming over the Mission. Here’s a closer look:

P.S. We made this observation before we got to the park and started eating truffles, so don’t try pulling that card.

List of everything our store doesn’t sell

Clothes Contact on Valencia sells clothes. And none of this other stuff. All Of Them Witches explains:

Sarah recently sent me this list of items that customers/crack heads have come into the store and asked for. She has one of the coolest jobs in the Mission & gets to play her own records all day long, what a babe!

Seriously though, where can I get a ring toss thing around here?

Organic doggy toy

Bring your rambunctious canines to the park if you need something to keep them busy for an hour or three.

Denim as high art

Apex is one of the more notable figures in the street art world. Kiya Babzani is possibly the most notable figure in the world of epic denim. Together, they are bringing epic denim to the gallery wall, in sort of a street art fashion I imagine. But I really have no idea what to expect.

The party starts at 7pm at White Walls.

Malts shop

Here’s one of the raddest songs by a local band I’ve heard all year:

And lucky for us, Terry Malts are playing a free show tonight at 8pm sharp at Afterlife. There will also be beer, according to the subliminal messages in this flyer:

Furthermore, as you can see, it’s a benefit for Yes Yes Yes, some kind of rad new magazine. Liz of Yes Yes Yes explains:

The show’s a fundraiser for our magazine’s second issue, and we’re gonna be selling beer and maybe wine and/or some alcoholic punch of some sort (a good one, don’t worry) and will have a computer set up so people can donate to our kickstarter or just an old fashioned giant jug for additional donations.

The aforementioned Kickstarter is here if you’d like to get a head start on donating.

For more on why Terry Malts are great, check out a lovely Bay Bridged feature from a few weeks back right here.
