Bunch of protestors and cops at 15th and Mission yesterday afternoon

What gives? Christine, who snapped the above snap, wants to know.

UPDATE: I guess it was just spillover from the BART protest after all. Nothing to see here.

Some protesters from Civic Center BART (protesting the BART police shooting) got kicked out of the BART station (or maybe hopped on BART, it’s not clear), so they moved to the 16th & Mission BART station, then apparently decided to march up Mission.

Outside my house (btw 14th & Duboce) they brilliantly pulled a dumpster into the middle of the street and then emptied it, thereby showing some poor sanitation workers than they’re not going to take this shit anymore.

When I saw them, it was about 30 people and 20 cops.

The picture above actually shows the cops picking up a trashcan from the middle of the street, too, after the protesters turned it over. Asshats.

Has google been broken for the past 17 hours or so?

  4. I heard one guy jumped on top of the train at Civic Center BART!

Gonna change the world, one knocked over garbage bin at a time.

    What a bunch of fools.

Couldn’t the protesters just gather on the steps of City Hall and demand change there instead of turning people against them by stopping people from getting where they need to be, like… home, work, school, the airport, daycare center to pick up the kids etc. etc. etc.?

And yes, I know the 2 individuals that were shot would loved to have made it to their destination too, but if you’re trying to win the citizenry over you need to be constructive with your protests, instead of disruptive. Unless you’re just trying to get on TV, then, mission accomplished.

    • Irony Falls says:

I don’t think that second shooting victim had much of a destination.

    • Jonboywalton says:

If they had gathered outside City Hall do you think it would be in the paper? Do you think we would be having this conversation right now? Do you think you would even know that the BART police shot an unarmed man dead on a BART platform last week? That is why they disrupt things, to get noticed and to get the message out there.

      • TC says:

YES, it would be in the paper, that’s what papers do… report on news events. YES, we would be having this conversation right now, YES, I would know BART Police shot a dude, it’s kinda hard to keep that kind of thing a secret. I wasn’t disrupted personally by the protesters and I noticed them and yes I even got their message.

But the methods used by the protesters only pissed me off. I am sure some people (not all) also felt the same way I did when they saw the guy climbing on top of the train. I believe my exact words were, “what a dumb ass and his buddies are cheering him on”

The problem with protesters is that they don’t question their own actions, it’s a bunch of people convincing themselves and one another of how “right” they are, how “necessary” their actions are. It’s mob mentality and more often than not it’s wrong.
