Say Goodbye to Work Dance Parties, Say Hello to More Miley Cyrus

no more energy 92.7

Energy 92.7 is going tween.  A damn shame.

When news of the station’s transfer of ownership dropped over a week ago, the Examiner nailed it:

Listening to the station is almost like being in a club with their cool DJs and interesting show segments. From the Clubbers Commute to the Mix at 6, one always feels their on the cutting edge of dance music. This is further enhanced by the station’s great partnership with its advertisers who cater to the station’s demographic. So any time while driving around town, you feel as if you’re in a cool club like Infusion Lounge or Wunderland instead of really just on your way to the video store. True though at some point when listening to songs in heavy rotation you’re minding you’re not dancing the night away, but trapped at a stop light in your beat up Jetta.

Man, now hobos who can’t afford iPods will really be fucked.

  2. Now if only the Examiner could work on nailing spelling and grammar.

Trevor Simpson and Don Parker’s emails are no longer working. Heard the rest of the staff is their until Friday. Sad. I’m recording it now, so in the future I’ll be able to remember what it sounded like.

  4. Huh, without NRG92.7, how will I be able to instantly tell if my cab driver is tweaking?

  5. fooos says:

who the fuck cares? energy 92.7 plays shitty house remixes of rnb songs all day; it’s not like this oasis of cool radio or something unless you’re like 17 and just found out about ecstasy.

    • Chris says:

      true.

“The cutting edge of dance music”? Um, no.
      “Infusion Lounge”? Um, no.
“Coherent writing”? Um, apparently not at the Examiner.

i have to completely disagree. i’m a fella in my mid 30′s, straight, and listen to 92.7 kinda often. it’s stupid mind candy, yes. but sometimes that’s fun. i know all kinds of different people that listen to it.

my main issue with this is; why does s.f. radio suck so much? i don’t want green day, i don’t want chris isaac, i don’t want r kelly, sleeves on hearts is only 1 day a week, and pirate cat gets under my skin in a bad way after 10 minutes.

it’s not like s.f. is the oasis of cool radio, but at least energy 97.7 was fun.

Um yeah, thats been on the cards since the sale which was months ago. The website on the tweet isnt even the correct one and not formal announcement or credible source as yet. Just more rumors. Not news.

I’m sure it will change somewhat, it has to, thats why they lost $30 million on the sale.

    • DanB says:

The Energy 92.7 official twitter feed says the rumors are true and there’s a farewell party tomorrow night.

They didn’t lose $30M because of the dance format, they lose $30M because investors at the height of our last boom actually thought a station with such limited range was a sane price. It isn’t. It never should have sold for that much to begin with. A dance format at $7M might make money. If for some reason a true Top 40 (I had no idea stations still did that) does take off in this market, a major player with a much stronger reach and signal will crush them within a single ratings cycle.

  7. rusty says:

The new “92.7 The Revolution” is now on the air, with “10,000 songs in a row”. I think they mean, 100 songs repeated 100 times.

So far, the production values of the new station are really “small market”.
