Death Becomes Her

This mesmerizing animated GIF has something to do with some Día de los Muertos festivities planned for next month. All of a sudden I’m excited for fall!

The question is, will Meli be all done up like this for tonight’s Butter Lap? Show up and find out, I suppose.

This is not mesmerizing and is kinda hard to look at because it’s so poorly done.

Hey all, just went in search of the date for this year’s Day of the Dead parade in the Mission and found this bit of info :

It seems the the organization who puts on the parade has lost their funding and is trying to raise money to pay for a permit to keep the event alive this year. Does this worry anyone else?

Let’s rally to make it happen!!!!

That’s the deal where all the white people march around 24th and Balmy dressed up like dead Mexican tourist curios…I’m so fucking embarrassed for my white brothers and sisters trying SO hard to be part of SOMETHING. We called it Night of the Whitey instead.
I keep my white ass the hell away from there that night.

Yeah, it’s as bad as when all those non-Irish people have a beer on St. Patrick’s Day, or when atheists give presents on Christmas, or when freeloading white folks don’t go to work because of the lame excuse that Martin Luther King day is a “federal holiday.”

yes, appropriation of culture is a tragic thing when it’s used as a reason to party. st. patty’s day. cinco de mayo (not even mexico’s independence day), and what i feel like is sorta the worst: dia de los muertos. a celebration of remembering the dead turns into a reason to get “dressed up” and party. it’s mostly the BM crowd who are fascinated by it. but please if you want to participate in a cultural holiday, try to at least have some cultural understanding. personal meaning, not a chance to make sangria, and and crowd your windows with guadalupe candles.
