CONTEST: Win tickets to an Archers of Loaf show this weekend at Great American Music Hall

Our pals at Noise Pop are proudly presenting a pair of Archers of Loaf shows this weekend at GAMH, and they’d like to give away a pair of tickets to one of them to one lucky Mission Mission reader.

Tell us in the comments why you really really really wanna see the show. We’ll pick a winner based on merit and the winner will get a pair of tickets to one of this weekend’s shows. Contest ends at midnight tonight.

In 1996, I went to see the Archers of Loaf at the Middle East Downstairs. The mundanity of that experience (angsty rawk performed to an audience of white hats on their way to a kegger) contributed greatly to my losing passion for indie rock as the late 90s progressed. Award me the tix, and I’ll get to find out if I was unrealistically puritanical in my indie rock experiences (I blamed the band), or both the band and I were victims of a sad period in 90s culture.

I would really love to see Archers… They were my absolute favorite band throughout my teenage years and I used to daydream about going to college in Chapel Hill constantly.

In high school, every mixtape I made for every girl I had a crush on started with “Web in Front”, and I would occasionally play it on guitar and regrettably try to convince people that I wrote it, because I was totally rad and intellectually honest.

I actually bought tickets to see them in Florida when they were touring for “White Trash Heroes” but then my roomate ended up going to jail for speeding with a joint in his car, and I had to wait around to bail him out instead of going to the show. I think getting the chance to see them now would set things right with the universe once again.

I never had the chance to see this band until now! Only a somewhat recent discovery after I read the Merge records book last year, and pretty much fell in love with the Loaf and Butterglory. I was too young and busy watching the beetleguese cartoon and drinking squeez its to even have the slightest idea that awesome music was happening independently from the corporate…stuffs.

These guys love ‘em enough and have enough history with the band to squander the money for two tickets. I don’t yet.

Because I my favorite thing to do is listen to ‘Chumming the Oceans’ while drinking whiskey. Honestly, I am seeing the show on Saturday, but the thought that I may miss this song if performed on Friday makes me need a drink!

If that’s not sad enough, my ex and I had tickets to see them in Colorado in 1998, but at the last minute we had a fight and he wouldn’t drive the hour to Denver for the show. They broke up after that tour and so did we.

And now, on a lighter note. Watch this!

    Who’s Archers of Loaf?

    Pick me!

But only for Friday tix cause I’m going to Grails on Saturday.

I saw saw them in Ohio with Creeper Lagoon in the late 90′s and was blown away. I own every cd they put out and truly believe they have added to my life.

I moved out to San Francisco and noticed that Eric Bachman was playing solo for Noise Pop at the Parkside. This was 2003 or 2004 I believe. I waited all night to see him. When he took the small stage some jerk from LA in red jeans and an LA haircut asked for his guitar so he could play some Joe Strummer because it was also that day. Bachman retreated to smoke and cut his set short after smoking and letting the kid fail to properly tune his Non Standard tuning acoustic.

Help me have a better memory
