Dude with bike verbally abuses Mission homeless man for no good reason

This is disturbing. I’ve had some unpleasant interactions with that guy too, but it’s clear he’s not well. I don’t think following him up and down the street “calling him out” with schoolyard insults accomplishes anything. I’ve always taken the convenient “leave him the-fuck-alone” approach.

If you’re going to spend the time to start an argument with every crazy homeless person who bugs you in SF, I’m not sure how you will have time for anything else, including eating and sleeping.

  2. scum says:

Big tough guy fucking with a crazy bum. It would have been nice if someone stood up to that asshole.

  3. Matthew says:

I bet his dick is HUGE.

  4. Stu says:

That would be Al. He is one of the more aggressive panhandlers in the Mission. Best way to deal with him is ignore him (or give him a buck). This fool chasing him around is only embarrassing himself. A gust of wind would push Al over, so yeah, not so tough on the bikers end. Although I’ve seen Al do the exact same thing in reverse it is more pathetic for a sane human to do in turn.

  5. Sweet T says:

Who is this person? Is he new? Who would waste even a second trying to argue with a deranged homeless guy? This reminds me of attempting to have a political discussion with my paranoid, tea-partier brother.

  6. why says:

What a turd – 2.06 “I’d like to watch him beg”… Dude walks like he dropped a turd in his pants and doesn’t want to smoosh it around too much.

  7. YES! says:

Fuck a bum. Im not trying to argue with them and Im definitely not trying to follow them around, but if this bum really talked trash downtown to dude and his girl, good for dude. Im over getting hassled by them; Im from here and the complacency that people have for the homeless is sad, yes some of them need help, others need to get smacked in the mouth. Dude should have followed this fool into the alley rocked his shit.

    • truth says:

The dude shit talking seems just as mentally ill as the homeless guy. You have serious problems if you can’t handle a crazy bum saying a few rude things to you. You have even worse problems if you follow one around for three minutes trying to exact some sort of pathetic revenge. And, of course, you’re an idiot and unhinged advocating violence against someone who hasn’t done shit to you besides say a few rude things to you. Oh, but I guess that’s what you do if you’re “tough.”

      • rod says:

it’s weird that the homeless dude crazy dude gets a free pass to be crazy but you get all judgmental towards the other crazy dude. these guys are obviously both kinda nuts, you’ve decided to sympathize with one and not the other so that you can still come out feeling superior to someone.

        • truth says:

I would re-read my comment in the context of the one I replied to and think about whether or not you’re actually responding to something I said. I said they’re both crazy and it’s fucked up to threaten violence towards someone who has said something you don’t like, but is not physically threaten you. Where does the homeless dude get a free pass? He wasn’t the one doing the stalking in that video.

        • GG says:

I’m troubled that you don’t seem to be able to intuit the difference between “crazy” as in “has anger management issues but probably lives an otherwise normal life” and “crazy” as in “is not receiving the mental health assistance necessary to properly secure his own health and safety.” Ignorance about the sad state of our public health system, and the consequences of living with a serious, untreated mental illness, breed this sort of callous attitude toward the homeless and are really disgraceful in a civilized society.

FWIW, I don’t have a dog in this fight — I don’t work with the mentally ill etc. — I’m just an average (I hope) compassionate adult.

          • GG says:

(my “you” was directed at rod)

          • Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

            GG: Well said.

          • rod says:

don’t worry, you need not point out the fact that you don’t have any real experience interacting with the homeless and mentally ill (meanwhile calling someone else ‘ignorant’ about the state of the public mental health system without catching the irony)

i have worked with the homeless and the mentally ill (there is crossover, but the two are not mutually inclusive, FYI). in fact, many would find your assumptions that the homeless man has serious mental illness and the privileged man must be of sound mind to be rather insulting.

homeless people are people too, there is no distinction, they are not some mentally damaged sub-species that need your protection. this one in particular threatens people with a knife. i see a video of two nuts yelling at each other, without much context. you see an opportunity to shake off some guilt.

          • GG says:

I actually didn’t make that “assumption” based on his being homeless, although maybe that was unclear from my comment — I’ve seen that guy around (as have many other commenters) and he’s clearly mentally ill. And don’t worry, you need not point out that you have experience with mental illness, it seems to be of the first-hand variety.

          • rod says:

right, that doesn’t really work as an insult when i have openly stated that above. it comes off as more of a pot-kettle statement now, this is getting to be about as nutty as the exchange in the video . . .

        • Nosmo King says:

Without the insults and gratuitous motive-reading, your arguments would be more likely to get a fair reading. If you care about that.

  8. VintageMac says:

I hope san francisco dies in a car crash.

    • fappy says:

we already did. and guess what? there is no heaven or hell. just a lot of poison ivy in the afterlife, which is quite itchy.
so we all came back from the dead and are getting ready for the big explosion when Modesto dies in a car crash.
oh, btw, i hope your vintage mac gets run over by UPS truck. Twice.

      • VintageMac says:

San Francisco is that girl at a party who claims to not be stuck-up or shallow, but who has tons of close-ups of their ‘serious’ face on their twitter/facebook.

And…just as you wished, a UPS truck just ran over my mac. Hope works.

  9. Fyodor says:

In the Mission of my youth the chances that that biker would have been stabbed by a random passerbyer would have been pretty high. I remember one time when I lived on 15th and Mission I got woken up to a Yuppie couple yelling at some homeless guy over some comment… After throwing some of his sidewalk sale stuff around, the couple got chased back to their car by 5 of the homeless dudes’ friends with 2x4s and pipes and they proceeded to mercilessly beat the crap out of the car. One guy could barely lift his weapon he was so out of it, but his friends cheered him on until he had landed a punishing blow on the sideview mirror. I was laughing my ass off when the drunken douchebags managed to peel out and hit the car across the street before hauling ass out of the Mission. Now dudes like mister Bikey mcBikerpants feel they have the right to piss on anyone they view as being lower on the economic ladder with impunity and no one in the Mission does shit. It’s a sad fucking state of affairs, I’ll tell you that much, and a damning portrait of just how far our fair Mission has fallen.

    • fappy says:

that’s true. we should burn all homes owned by white people to the ground (except for yours of course) and welcome back all the violence and death of yesteryear. then you’ll *really* be able to gloat.

      • Fyodor says:

Who’s gloating? I was merely leaving an amusing anecdote highlighting the ways the Mission has changed. If you believe that changes that validate entitled douchebags being dicks to the poor and powerless are beneficial ones, that’s your own psychological damage and it’s between you and your therapist.

    • rod says:

if you’re so street and long to live in a state of chaos and violence, why not move to hunter’s point, toughguy?

      • Fyodor says:

Lol, where did I say I was “street”?

Longing for a return to days when hipster bikers didn’t feel entitled to harass homeless people up and down the street is hardly a call for anarchy and bedlam.

  10. No fish today says:

It’s about time someone hassled these ballsy hobos back.

  11. Tuna says:

Wow! Two of my favorite SF archetypes. The untreated mentally ill homeless guy commiting a quality of life crime. The entitled self righteous cyclist expressing his superiority.

What’s missing is the fat inefficient civil servant, the trust fund hipster, a wildly affluent, no “value add” financial district guy and web 2.0 dork.

Can’t all these transplants go back to Peoria?

    • Carnal Knowledge says:

What about the missionmission commenter whose life is complex enough that he doesn’t fit into any stereotypical category?

  12. terrapin_sf says:

    Best comment thread ever.

  13. Tuna says:

She lives in the Sunset and wishes they’d all just go away!

  14. hipster jesus says:

I saw that crazy homeless guy drop pants and start taking a shit, right in front of the stairs for BART at 16th.

Instead of saying “hey, how dare you shit on this sidewalk we’re all trying to walk on,” I got a roll of TP and held it out to him on a silver platter.

How about you preachy folks go invite the poor homeless dude to stay in your awesome mission apartment, instead of just clucking about how mean the douchey bike guy was.

  15. Please says:

someone who reads this blog must recognize that wiener Post his information, I’d rather there be a hundred more Als walking around than having to listen to that whiney wiener voice.

whiney wiener voice needs to go back to orange county

    • Really? says:

Really? You’d rather have a 100 homeless drug addicts walking around then an employed, tax paying person? People like you are what’s wrong with San Francisco. Also, you don’t know the back story. How do you know your beloved “Al” didn’t threaten to stab this guy and his girl?

      • Sigmarlin says:

The city was fine before the monied transplants moved in. Nice working class city, lots of space, affordable rent. We loved our crazies.

PS the rich don’t pay the same taxes as the rest of us, haven’t you heard?

  16. Mark Vogel says:

That toothless drug addict said he was gonna stab me after I told him to “fuck off” while he was using the follow-you-and-pester-you-until-you-pay-me
technique several months back near the Hemlock (he gets around.) Not into it, this fella with the bike is following said toothless drug addict around and pestering him much in a similar way and he doesn’t seem to enjoy the attention, even calls the guy with the bike a faggot.

Poor toothless drug addict, no seriously.

  17. Al is just a super annoying jawless-pathetic-junky that has no memory of this even happening. Someone should give him a ride to Noe or the Marina where grown-ups will step up and get him some help.

  18. Hoboking says:

That Al nutter is an ass. He’s threatened me several times, launched into homophobic rants, taken a swing at a friend with his cane and uses his obnoxiousness to extort money from local businesses.

I don’t think that it helps to follow him around and harass him, but when he does stab someone or gets beaten to death for harassing the wrong person it’ll come as no suprise.

Heck he’s goaded me into threatening him once or twice – but how does one react when some crazy is inches from your face spitting and promising to kill you?

  19. TC says:

All those people around and not ONE person does anything. The guy with the bike- drunk as fuck, the homeless guy- obviously mentally ill. Does anybody know who the bike dude is, because he needs his ass kicked. People just don’t give a fuck anymore, everyone that witnessed that event and did NOTHING ought to be ashamed. They’re as morally bankrupt as bike dude.

    • En-Chu Lao says:

TC said: “Does anybody know who the bike dude is, because he needs his ass kicked.” Why are you delegating ass-kickings? What, were you too busy sorting your pantaletas?

I’m totally behind what bike-dude did. He had to deal with one scumbag too many so he reversed the shit-talk and whack-man didn’t like it; tough shit. You can call that pest crazy all you want to, but I say his type is crazy like a fox. When the black & whites cruise by they usually have the smarts to shut up, but when there’s no badge, all you hear is their rant, punctuated with nigger, faggot, kike, asshole and the rest of their hate. Some of you think it gives the city some color, I say it gives the city some blight. These guys say stuff that they can’t say to somebody outside their league in Little Rock or wherever they’re from.
When I volunteered with Open Hand, I watched these guys go totally ballistic when they didn’t get exactly what THEY wanted. Sometimes we had to call a badge to stop them from going berserk.
When you live in a city, you know who’s truly down for the count versus the POS who have figured out that they can be confrontational and get a pass on their “quirkiness”.

      • why says:

this is a crazy comment… dude he’s trying to find out who the guy is so that he can kick his ass… he ain’t delegating anything he’s asking for help so he can administer the ass kickin obviously…

      • diqheed says:

        nailed it

    • fiero says:

      Dear Tc,

You are a total idiot. I know both people involved. One has robbed my friends and threatened to stab and or beat numerous people. The other has brought soup to sick friends in bed and is a caring individual. Maybe i ought beat your pathetic ass for jumping to uninformed conclusions about people you don’t know, and suggesting harm be done to them. You are a total fucking asshole, and i’d like to beat and smear your stupid face all across the interweb.

      • Herr Doktor Professor Deth Vegetable says:

Yeah, TC, don’t make Random Internet Toughguy angry, you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Or something.

Is the testosterone shower over now?

      • take it easy says:

Your friend Todd or Ethan or whatever needs to take his cubicle job frustration out on someone who can defend themselves instead of harrassing a schizophrenic/sick man. Be an adult. I really can’t believe nobody stepped in, it kind of appaled me

      • TC says:

Until you’ve seen videos of me incessantly berating a homeless person, intimidating or bullying some other poor person (insane or otherwise) then I would wait on calling me pathetic. You’re a BIASED asshole and your soup delivery friend should show some compassion to those less fortunate than himself. I might be a fucking asshole but I at least pick my battles against worthy opponents and you can pass that on to your fucked up friend.

      • Poplocker says:

Takes a douchebag to like a douchebag.

  20. Thanks says:

Go spend a day on 16th and Mission and get involved every time two people start yelling at each other, see where that gets you.

    • TC says:

Thanks- for adding nothing to this post.

      • Nosmo King says:

        Except reality.

      • Thanks says:

Dude, stop being morally bankrupt. I can literally hear people shouting from my window right now. Go dispense justice and ass kickings.

      • 1stTIMElastTIME says:

Nothing YOU can understand, perhaps? I get it and it’s real talk. You gotta armor up, pick your battles, and keep your head down sometimes. Good Sams can end up bleeding in the gutter in a real city -this isn’t utopia yet.

        • TC says:

All I’m saying is bike dude needs his ass kicked for not taking the high road. Asking a homeless guy “…you’re how old and you’re begging?” and “I wanna watch you beg”

          FUCK YOU BIKE DUDE!

  21. diqheed says:

The guy in the blue jacket is my friend, and that homeless guy is a piece of shit. I’ve seen that homeless man chase girls and I believe he is referring to an incident where the homeless guy scared a girl he was on a date with. FUCK THAT GUY.

  22. Pete says:

Dealt with the homeless guy many times over the years and I personaly don’t think he’s “crazy” at all. His scam is to intimidate people into giving him money, if it doesn’t work he goes on to the next person. There are many people on the streets of the Mission and elsewhere begging for money, how many have threatened you after you said “no”? Probably only one.

  23. MrEricSir says:

I always laugh when I see this guy. Why take him seriously? He’s just some old nut with a foul mouth.

  24. Can’t believe this is being blogged abt r/n

  25. Skyler says:

Last week Al tried to get me to buy my wife a pair of used fake snake skin flats he’d found. When I told him she didn’t want them, he kinda flipped out… He’s definitely one of the more agressive homeless guys I’ve run into, but really didn’t deserve all that.

  26. Sweetie says:

way to infuse some humanity, nice.

  27. unexplainedbacon says:

Can we hold auditions for new homeless? Why don’t we have a crazy lady that throws cats yet? SF is really slacking.

  28. Benji says:

I laughed. I cried. This is why I don’t have cable.

  29. rocky yazzie says:

    what a dumb ass.

  30. em says:

I would be embarrassed to be that biker guy or even associated with him. what sane person with any sort of heart acts that way?? also, why did the person recording not try to break this up?? why does everyone just watch this shit go down and not try to diffuse the situation??

  31. lexie says:

Yes, I’m sure he started yelling at him for “no reason”. All homeless are fallen, mentally sick snels and everyone else who says otherwise is a Republican asshole.

I’ve been asked for money and when I’ve refused, I’ve been called a whore. I’ve seen some guys spit on people. Even Omer has let a racial slur slide out.

I know I’m not in the same position as the homeless but I’ve been in the working poor. To be asked for money constantly and be berated when I don’t give is maddening. I don’t blame this guy for going off. Most of you holier-than-thou would too, given a certain degree of harassment.

    • 15 years says:

I’ve lived in SF for more than 15 years. I’ve never once been insulted by a panhandler, nor have I ever been panhandled “aggressively,” whatever that’s supposed to mean. When I hear people say they’re always have run-ins with homeless people, I can’t help but think they’re somehow instigating shit themselves.

BEING HOMELESS SUCKS MORE THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE. Just think how aggressive and rude yuppie biker dude would be if he were unfortunate enough to live on the streets himself, and actually had something real to be upset about! Be thankful you’re not living on the street y’all. And take a moment to consider just how cranky you might be if you did. Yuppie biker dude is an embarrassment to himself.

  33. marlon says:

can we arrange a rematch??points for best original insults;and maybe ill take action ..homeless guy is a 3 1/2 punch underdog.

  34. Poplocker says:

I hate stupid cracker as white boy hipsters that feel so entitled to insult a mad crazy homeless person. I wish this white boy gets stabbed or punched in the face someday.
