SFPD officer arrested for shoplifting – while in uniform

From our anonymous source, who’s at work in a department store in the mall downtown:

an officer in uniform was shopping with her mom and they watched her pocket some costume jewelry and last i heard they stopped her and called the police, aka her coworkers.

And regarding whether our source was sure it was SFPD:

100% positive. badge, gun, the works.

    Take it in stride.

  2. SlideSF says:

I thought cops could do whatever they want, take whatever the want.

    • COP#2 says:

      you thought wrong!!

      • No Way says:

Really? Then how/why do they keep doing it and getting away with it?

What’s this pig’s “punishment” going to be, “paid administrative leave”? Most likely not even that much…

  3. TargetSF says:

That sounds like a question from a 4 year old….Can a policeman arrest another policeman?

  4. michael conrad says:

    Let’s be careful out there

better than mistaking her gun for a tazer!

  6. Erik says:

The store security person is probably lucky to not be dead right now.

  7. Mark says:

The irony referred to must be the arrest since that result differs from the expected result, but the idea that a cop would break the law is very much expected.

  8. SpliffHuxtable says:

‘Cause every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners Saints’

  9. schmed says:

I find it strange that all of the comments treat this as if it’s a too-be-expected case of a police officer abusing his/her authority. Shoplifting is frequently the manifestation of mental illness, and is usually not a rational crime designed to get something of value. It’s costume jewelry, people!

  10. schmed says:

Your equation of mental illness with violence is a bit too simple. I’m no expert, but kleptomania, which affects women far more than men, has been linked to obsessive-compulsive disorder and by itself does not make someone unqualified to carry a weapon.

    • thank says:

mental illness that compels someone to break laws is a good enough reason to stop someone from carrying a weapon. at least it is for me and just about any law enforcement agency in the country . . .

    • Lee Doolan says:

An ‘equation of mental illness with violence’ is enough to keep someone from purchasing a firearm. It should be enough to disarm a mentally ill cop.

    • PhDMonkeybusiness says:

Whew! Glad you set everyone straight. For a minute there, I thought it was something serious, like a gunman, in a position of authority, who can’t stop themselves from stealing other people’s stuff.

  11. paul brennan says:

Just a couple of points on previous posts.

Yes. A police officer can arrest another officer.

Are you sure it was a police officer and not a “Patrol Special.” They wear the same uniform and are also armed. The distinction is they wear a six pointed star not seven and their patch has silver thread not gold with Patrol Special on top.

Too many times there are reports regarding “BAD SFPD COPS” but they are really “Patrol Specials.”

Real cop or not throw the book at them.

    • Marlon says:

Honestly, without any discussion of what a “Patrol Special” is, you have just said ‘potato.’ This is a serious matter, and calls for journalistic follow-up.

This story doesen’t ring right. 3rd person hearsay source? I want the facts. Cuz anybody can say anything. Name? Charges? And I want to hear the San Francisco Police Department to speak about this in public.

This would be grounds for termination and as a concerned citizen ” I want to know”.

At this point I don’t believe this is true. All I do know is this story has been aired by this publication.

  13. COP#2 says:

what a jackass!!,,shows what the job really meant to her. if this is true she doesn’t deserve another chance,,and don’t frown on the mall cop,,he was doing his job!,if she’s willing to risk her 100k a year job for costume crap, then why should he! care?
