Bike Helmet Sheep

photo

Everybody’s talking about these sheep. Tricia from noe valley *buzz* sent us the above pic and hipped us to the story: They have something to do with an organization called Albion Street Mural Project.

Albion resident Daniel B. sent us the below pic and said, “It’s starting to make me  feel uncomfy.”

It reminds me of The Little Prince, if he’d visited someone in the present-day Mission instead of mid-twentieth-century France.

Is this implying that folks who wear helmets are like sheep, following blindly assuming that by protecting the top 2 inches of their body, they are somehow being ‘safer’ than someone without a helmet…?

still think this is the ugliest mural. the moss application won’t age well.

mcas, I don’t think it’s trying to say anything. It’s just ugly. Also you can’t see it but the one on the right is wearing bike pants and eating a croissant. This would fit a lot better on fourth st in Marin.

thanks for all the kind words :) the piece was put together after doing quite a bit of historical research and combining that with daily observations made living on albion. the animals chosen, coyote and sheep, are site specific as well. i would hate to lead anyone by the hand as to what the piece is saying, but would be more than happy to share historical references that may be helpful/interesting. for those who still think it’s terribly unsightful, don’t worry! the mural is set to change every few months with different local artists! . . . as for the skinny-jean-hipster-sheep eating the croissant . . . it makes me smile every time i look at it :)

    thanks for reading -
