J-Church in Dolores Park Through the Ages

Flickr photographer petespix75‘s photostream is a treasure trove of Muni trolleys through the ages. My favorite are these early ’80s J’s in Dolores Park (doye, the ’80s and Dolores Park are my two favorite things), but you might prefer the even older stuff after the jump:

Great pics. Why does it seem like 1963 was the peak in beauty and maintenance for the area? Was it all because of that person who is seen watering the grass? When he left/died, did it all go to hell?

And what happened to that stone bridge over the tracks?

Well, the green torpedoes were just plain more attractive than the orange burritos. And the trees were younger, the grass shorter, in those days.

There’s something about the sight of a well-manicured park that conjures-up visions of possibly imaginary balmy summer mornings.

      Dunno about the bridge, off-hand.

MJ Fox gets off of the J there (coming from Church St Station!) at the end of Casualties of War.

Ooh, snazzy! Those orange beauts take me back to middle school. Ah, the beige, scuzzy floors and gross brown seats.

Now I’m seriously debating getting off my butt and finally ordering one of Amos Goldbaum’s t-shirts…
