Demons in the water pipes

I know SF Public Works is upgrading water infrastructure in the Mission, but is anyone else experiencing this? They must have struck a massive river of ecotoplasm under the city, because shit is getting weird – if the tap starts pouring red I’m getting out of Dodge.

Yeah, this has been going on for about a week. I sent in a note to PUC/sfwater but it continues. That brown stuff is gritty too.

You should hear what it sounds like when you flush. It’s like Monsturd (http://youtu.be/RaUvHs_05dM) is coming to get you.

this use to happen all the time when I lived on the east coast. Looks like dirt and crap that got into the water line (presumably from construction or a burst pipe). Turn on all your water faucets for 5-10 minutes, and it’ll usually clear the brown crud out.

I hope this is only happening on your block, I haven’t noticed anything at my place…yet. Ugh.

This is why I only drink beer.

DIS. GUSTIN. Not coming to your house anytime soon. I fear poo water.

There is an urban legend going around that the Board of Stupidvisors get to crap directly into your sink.

Its called “low-flow cut & blow.”

You’re probably going to think I live in the ghetto when I say this, but the water in my building turns that color twice a day.

See, we have a steam heat system, where the boiler that supplies the hot tap water also heats the building.

After the heat turns off (all units are heated at preset times, we cannot control it) the water condenses in the pipes and flows back down into the hot water tank.

At that point, the hot water tank is filled with rust, since the pipes for the heating system were installed back in the early 1940′s and haven’t been serviced since.

  8. Disclaimer: I am a SFPUC employee and work in the communications department. I am very familiar with the past and ongoing work replacing aging water main pipes in the Mission. You are correct that the SFPUC is upgrading water main pipes in parts of the Mission (20th, 21st, Harrison etc). Sometimes when making connections to the new water main pressure stirs up sediment which may discolor water, but as one of your replies mentions if you run the water for a minute or two it should clear up. If you continue to experience discolored water please call 311 and give your address so that the SFPUC can come investigate. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
