Worth It/Not Worth It

Which is it? There’re always a million people in line, and there’re always a million haters walking by muttering about how it’s not worth it. If it’s not worth it, why are there so many people in line? If it’s worth it, why are there always so many people walking by saying it’s not? My head hurts!!

This is either Tartine Bakery or Ike’s Sandwiches. I can’t tell which.
But – Ike’s Sandwiches is the best. On par with Bay Cities in LA. If you call ahead you don’t have to wait. Sucka!

It’s Bi-Rite Creamery and it’s definitely worth it!

“it’s so not worth it” = “I’m so insecure that I’m worried I’ll look like a lemming if I wait in this line with everyone else so instead I have to make it seem like I’m actually cooler than them and know something they don’t know so I’ll just mutter ‘it’s so not worth it’ as I walk by so they’ll wish they were me and they won’t know I’m insecure”

“it’s so worth it” = “I’m so insecure that I need to insist on the value of something that everyone else tells me I should want so that I don’t look like a fool for waiting in line with everyone else”

basically, you should never walk by, and you should only go to the creamery yourself when there’s no one in line. because, frankly, the ice cream is good, but not wait-in-line-for-an-hour good.

It can be fun waiting in line with friends though, right? Fresh air, and you can hear each other better than you can in a bar.

it’s definitely wait-in-line-for-fifteen-minutes good. and from my experience, even when the line is approaching the corner of dolores st, it’s not going to take longer than that until you’ve earned your sweet rewards.

the salted caramel, however, is tasty but overrated.

that girl with hand on her back has a HUGE ass.

I’m a big fan and apparently so is GQ (http://bit.ly/8mtSRE) From the looks of the extremely well dressed patrons I’d say the lengthy line is definitely due to the power of the press. Scoop be doop!

  6. I sort of meant “not worth it” at the time. I’m not opposed to standing in line … sometimes.

  7. Not worth it, but I’ve only really bothered once. I’m more of a Xanath/Three Twins/Yotopia sort. Keepin’ it simpler than these carmalized balsamic whatnots.

Ike’s is not worth it — I don’t understand that AT ALL. Ick and double ick.

    • Mission Mistaken says:

I’m with you. Ike’s is like the Beanie Baby or Pet Rock of restaurants. The line always looks like what you would imagine power sellers on ebay look like.

Now Miss May’s loving hands, the sandwich shop over at 691 14th, that place was amazing, though I haven’t been their since they took the hiatus a few years back.

      • Rod says:

what a snooty and defensive way to slam a totally innocuous eatery, apparently born out of some sort of jealousy because you don’t like the same sandwiches that a lot of other people do?

people have different tastes, chill. it may come as breaking news but sandwich preferences are subjective . . .

on second thought, i hope more people become too cool for Ike’s, that would help shorten the lines.

  9. jekka says:

Just skip to the front and get a pint or an ice-cream sandwich. This line is equivalent to queueing at cable-car turnarounds instead of walking a block to the next stop.

  10. joshua says:

oh, its worth it on a good day, sure!
humphrey slocombes has always been good to me though. I prefer them.

  11. Jenna says:

Little known fact. bi-rite market (across the street) sells the same ice cream in pints, no line no wait. They’ll even give you a spoon. I never understood that line. Is everyone getting a sundae?

  12. Dim says:

Ump, it mightib be worf ip.

    Stop blocking the side walk…
