Dirty Thieves renamed Blind Cat because owner lost a bet

It’s official — from here on out, Dirty Thieves will be known as the Blind Cat. As Ariel wrote back in March, the owner lost a bet and had to change its name, and the proof is in the new signage.

I don’t know about you, but the sign is more reminiscent of a dead cat. But I don’t draw cats, I only train them, so what do I know.

So wait, there’s Thieves Tavern, Whiskey Thieves, and Dirty Thieves.

Now all 3 bars violate the sacred “i before e” rule (I know this thanks to Firefox’s spell check.) But are all 3 owned by the same person/people?

    • Why says:

the I before E rule is erroneous becasue there are far more exceptions than there are words that comply with this rule… Besides which your three examples conform to the rule you’re saying they violate – so now I’m just confused…

    • Ben says:

Yeah, it’s the same group of folks that own all 3. Whiskey Thieves is the mothership, at least in terms of whiskey selection.

They’re all pretty rad especially if you’re a whiskey fan. For bourbon fans, Rock Hill Farm is a particularly nice one for the price.

We all thought they changed the name to METH CAT. I think we’ll keep calling it METH CAT.

thanks for clearing this up. i could not figure out why they had changed the sign, but i never got around to asking Jeff or Mark.

  4. pedro says:

    i think it’s “whiskey whiskers”

  5. thuglifecrunk187 says:

yeah i prefer meth cat. lets go with that. you wouldnt have to change the sign either. (e before i)

  6. Old School SF says:

    Honestly, this doesn’t change much.

Everyone called Dirty Thieves “Treat Street” which was the name of the old bar, and I assume that everyone will keep calling it that…

Anybody know what the bet in question was?

  8. ………….In light of SLABBED revisits the data documenting Katrinas wind and flood water on the McIntosh property. As Sops Updating the original post pointed out There was around 2 feet of water inside the McIntosh residence when the storm surge peaked in the Biloxi Bay several hours after Hurricane force winds began blowing..NOAA shows the McIntosh property was subjected to page 50 .. What did more damage to the McIntosh property 2 feet of flood water or F2 Eyewall Winds? Questions of fact are for a jury to decide.
