Rite Spot Cafe undergoing major renovations, will reopen within a month

As we reported back in December, Rite Spot has been shut up since November. That’s a long time, man. But apparently they’re gonna reopen soonish. An Eater SF tipster has the scoop:

It was all in tumult, furniture stacked in huge piles, sanding equipment and miscellaneous junk everywhere. I talked to one of the guys who said they are undergoing renovations and Rite Spot will be back up and running within a month.

Can’t wait!

I hope they get better music and dial back the attitude a couple of notches

I hope the attitude and music stay the same (fat chance, obviously). The Rite Spot has always been a locals bar and their deliberate non-catering to pissants is part of what has kept it so. Remove those things and you get The Bloodhound, Dear Mom and whatever it is they’ve renamed Sadie’s, aka Mission Hill Saloon. In a matter of days we’ll hear about the new decor, the revamped gastropub menu and they’ll start carding everyone because everyone will be there. After a time, good bars achieve a certain sanctity with their patrons; I sincerely wish the new owners that privilege.

I always liked the music and what I perceived as a LACK of attitude. Annie at the bar could be a bit prickly, but usually only when dealing with pricks. She has always been friendly and gracious to me and my friends.

I’m happy they will be back; I missed going there. To hater, perhaps you should consider going somewhere else, somewhere with music you enjoy more and a mood that better suits you. I hope you find what you are looking for!

Agree, Annie has always been awesome to me, and was the first bartender in SF to learn my name and give me the occasional free drink. Also loved seeing music there. There’s not a lot of casual bars where you can sit and eat dinner by candlelight with a date and watch a local band.

Talking to some of the musicians that play there and are close with management, it is not switching owners. The place is owned by an older chinese guy named carlos (if you can believe that) and he hasn’t been interested in selling. The renovations were to correct code/health violations that had plagued that place for a while.

2 months later and still no Rite Spot. Any updates?
