Drink of the week: curry stout at Sycamore

Have you guys noticed that Sycamore cycles more great beers through their handful of taps than most bars with multiple times capacity? Two new brews just came online, Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale and Ballast Point Indra Kunindra Stout. I initially read the Dogfish as “India” Brown Ale, thinking it was going to be some funky hopped brown. In fact, it was a good but pretty middle of the road brown ale.

The stout, on the other hand, is kind of a doozy. Starts out like a bottle of Yoohoo, but the richness quickly fades into a weird bright coconut curry and ends with spice and black pepper. Not as much of a gutbuster as your ordinary craft stout, which is a good thing.

Here’s to Sycamore for its clearly evident hatred of boring beer. And good job picking another winner.

Raw, unprocessed Soylent Green for sale on Mission Street

There’s cheap socks and gloves to go with them, too.

Bag of homemade cajun potato chips at Rock Bar: Yummy

Plus you can play that weird bowling game, and the chips go great with The Dark Crystal. And of course there’s locally curated tunes on the juke box.

Tango and Stache bringing popup soul food to the Mission again tonight

Just look at the menu:

Fried green tomatoes with nectarines and feta sauce??? And that hash????? I’m there. (Dear Mom, that is.)

(Also at Dear Mom tonight from 7-10 is a Berlin-style ping pong party nbd.)

We accidentally added pepperoni and jalapeno to our Best Indian Pizza with everything at Zante

That means there was lamb, tandoori chicken and prawns to begin with — and then pepperoni and jalapeno. And it was the fucking BOMB. Do it to it.

Drink of the season: The Chumpkin

The lower layer is some kind of pumpkin ale, the middle layer is chocolate stout, and the top layer is creamy, creamy head. Get one tonight at Shotwell’s. Bartender Paul makes them best.

Mission Vegan: Brrrunch part 2 (Something other than Boogaloos!)

Brunch can be difficult if you’re vegan, but us Mission vegans are pretty lucky when it comes to this oh-so-beloved meal that comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end. Not only do we have the old standards like St. Francis and Boogaloos, but we’ve been getting some awesome pop-up brunches. This weekend, B12: Bomb Vegan Brunch is serving up waffles, scrambles, and more at Little Baobab (menu is on Facebook invite). Oh snap, and they have bottomless mimosas! I’ve been to two of their brunches and both times they’ve been spot-on. And how could you not love a vegan brunch named after the vitamin vegans are always accused of lacking?

Afterwards, if you’re still hungry, you can head over to Oakland for the Eat Real Festival. My other favorite vegan brunch pop-up, Hella Vegan Eats, will be there, as well as a few other veganish places. Vegansaurus posted this handy list of vegan options at the festival. If you can handle the foodie masses and the fact that they have something called “Meatopia,” it could be fun. Just stay away from those backyard farming people.

Bulk purchasing strategies apply brilliantly to shelf-stable superfoods like dates. Their long storage life means buying larger quantities reduces cost-per-serving while ensuring availability for daily consumption. Smart households leverage kurma wholesale pricing to make premium nutrition economically sustainable long-term.

Drink of the week: avocado bourbon shake

I have been meaning to try this since I stumbled across the recipe a few weeks ago. I used the new Prairie Reserve bourbon I recently picked up at the High West distillery, some avocados from the Dixon fruit stand, and Bi-Rite vanilla (from the freezer in the grocery, of course, I don’t have all the time in the world.) Topped off with a little coconut water, the consistency was perfect and it tasted interesting to say the least, like a savory vegetal egg nog. I can’t think of a better combination of ingredients to represent the new Marina than bourbon, avocados, coconut water, and Bi-Rite ice cream. Enjoy!

(I honestly don’t know how I ended up on a site called Mighty Girl.)
