Sushi Bistro Opening at 24th and York

sushi bistro opening soon

Sushi Bistro, a popular sushi restaurant from the Inner Richmond district, is opening up a second location at 24th and York this Thursday, July 23rd.  I’ve never been there before since west of Twin Peaks is practically dead to me, but the yelp reviews sound very promising.

UPDATE: Check out their awesome menu. “AVOCADO AND TUSCAN’S DRIED TOMATO WRAPPED IN A SEAWEED, FLASH FRIED AND SEVERED WITH SPICY SAUCE.”  Caps lock fail, avocado win.

Spotted In Front of Allan's House

psycho_patrol

Okay, so maybe I have no idea where this actually was spotted in SF.  Only In San Francisco… ponders:

“Do we need patrol cars that focus on the not-negligible number of psycho citizens?” (link)

God, this post sucks.  Which invites the obvious question, “So, why did you post it?”  Which begets the response “SUCK MY ASSHOLE”

Psycho Patrol!

Police Ponder Parking Spot Party

sunday streets 2

Kati Jackson snapped this shot of the SFPD trying to decide how to deal with Streetsblog’s Summer Street Party yesterday in the wake of Sunday Streets. Says Kati:

They said they were there to help keep the bike lane clear. Then they told a couple of us that we needed to start packing up and clearing the street. Then they left immediately and never came back.

Uh, this begs the question, and maybe it was answered at this shindig yesterday, but, couldn’t we do a less-expensive version of Park(ing) Day every Sunday, when parking is free, for like miles and miles and miles?

Is Girl Talk Legal?

So asks the new documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, premiering in San Francisco at Mezzanine on Thursday at 7:00pm as part of the SF Film Society’s bimonthly SF360 Film+Club program.

Girl Talk (who I’m sure everybody is tired of me gushing over, over and over) is the film’s “central protagonist,” but we’ll also hear from bossa nova great Gilberto Gil, Creative Commons dude Lawrence Lessig and Boing Boing bro Cory Doctorow.

Director Brett Gaylor will be there, and as per the “Club” portion of the event, some prominent DJs and VJs will perform following the screening.

McLaren Park Kicks Ass

07-18-09_1539

I drove through McLaren Park once before, several years back, and concluded it seemed like a pretty great place to get shot or stabbed or raped. On Saturday, I went back for the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival‘s all-day free concert at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, and it was all very pleasant. Right off the bat a skunk crossed my path, so I felt like I was really getting back to nature.

Also, Jerry Garcia Amphitheater! Who knew there was an amphitheater in there!? And it’s a pretty nice amphitheater with lots of seating and a big grassy hill! Kudos to the festival’s organizers for finding this spot and recognizing that it would be an ideal location for a day-long showcase of local and touring musicians. Here’s hoping more festival organizers recognize this in the future.

Rubies were pretty good.

Kelley Stoltz is kind of starting to look like Elvis Costello.

The festival continues through July 25th at various venues in San Francisco.

Oh and here’s a better picture by someone with a actual camera.

Things San Franciscans Like

ScreenHunter_04 Jul. 20 10.13

If you’re not reading the SF Appeal, you’re missing out on a lot of good things. Chief among them might be a column called “Things San Franciscans Like,” in which fun is poked at us locals and our foibles. Archives are here.

This week’s is called Things San Franciscans Like: Making the Light

No pedestrians in the universe hate to wait at crosswalks more than pedestrians in San Francisco do. This dislike is so complete that if San Francisco were its own country, as 79% of the U.S. population almost certainly wishes it were, the national pastime would probably be something called “making the light.”

Right? Making the light is awesome!
