This collaboration has been spawned by The Derailleurs recent movie production. We will be filming scenes for our upcoming release, slated for viewing in October. We want to give a big shout out to bicycle culture in San Francisco, so you are encouraged to represent your local flavors.
Did we mention there will be prizes for the winners of the competitions?
The ending point is a rent party at FUNLAND, Cyclecide’s recent mini-putt putt endeavor on Bayshore Ave. and it totally lives up to it’s name.
Mayhem, Blood, and Glory!
See you there.
$5-10 s.s. benefit for Funland

For some brilliant coverage of the action-packed street party that was yesterday’s Sunday Streets event in the Mission, look no further than Burrito Justice (top) and We Built This City (bottom).
And if you want you can also stay tuned to Mission Mission for Kevin Montgomery’s first-person account of the festivities coming later on this morning.
The Creme Brulee Man brings news that the Dolores Park Cleanup went well. More importantly, there is a myth about hipster hill being “disrespectful and dirty?” What?
“Cleanup went well. Empowerment over entitlement. Ps. The myth about the hipster side of the park being disrespectful and dirty..it’s true.”

A number of people have reported that a cyclist was hit at 22nd and Capp around 6:30pm this evening.
One reader, e., reports:
Woman in Lexus ES 300 hit a man on a bicycle at 22nd at Capp about 10 minutes ago. First repsonders on the scene. He was moving around, but stayed laying on the ground. Didn’t take a picture because, well, didn’t seem right.
I checked out the scene and overheard that someone ran the stop sign, but I did not catch who it was.
Update: If someone did indeed run a stop sign, it wasn’t the cyclist. From Mission Loc@l’s twitter stream:
“Bike accident @ Capp & 22nd in front of Copa Loca. Lexus going W on 22nd hits a biker coming off sidewalk. Biker okay, but on way to SFGH.” (link)
Evidence suggests that an “organic frozen yogurt” place called “Yotopia” is opening soon next to Latin American Club at 22nd and Valencia. Hopefully it is not related to the Yotopia in Costa Mesa, because that place sounds like it really sucks (the signage suggests they are different).
This block of 22nd St. is rapidly going through a change. Over the past few weeks, we have seen the opening Escape From New York Pizza (for better or worse, at least there is food readily available after 2am that is not a burrito) and Oz Smoke Shop (which seems to embody every stereotype of a hookah lounge imaginable). Now we have an organic frozen yogurt place? I cannot tell if it is going to turn into bridge-tube-n-track central or maintain its current status as a Mission-Bernal-Noe breeding ground. Keep your eyes on this one; what happens on 22nd could easily unfold on the greater Valencia corridor.
Obviously the interior is still under construction, but the inside is starting to look pretty sterile. Hopefully they hire a local muralist to spice the place up.
Okay, MJ did not say this himself, but whatever. The art was found in the men’s room at Mission Bar. A much better photo by Rick Audet indicates that this has been around since the fall of 2007, but it’s new to me.

Reader Jesse N. points us in the direction of this interesting piece about the 2001 housing boom and fixtures of San Carlos St. at the time. Definitely worth a listen.
I was listening to an old 2001 episode of This American Life and it devoted a whole third of the show to the Mission. Entertaining even if you didn’t know the neighborhood, but rings truer if you do, it’s a story about Mission life around the time of the end of the tech boom. Specifically, about a person who was a longtime fixture on his block but was getting pushed out of his apartment. The story is as comical as it is mildly depressing considering SF is going through similar economic times. Enjoy!
