Bikes, bands, booze tonight at the Rickshaw Stop

Tunes4Tubes, the annual party and fundraiser for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, is going down tonight at the Rickshaw Stop.

The lineup includes hometown funk/soul masters Con Brio and Whiskerman plus the Balkan-fusion outfit Cradle Duende and comedy from Sean Keane; silent auction items include prints and photography from SF artists and gift certificates for massages, sweet bike gear, and local food and booze. What more could you want? Stop being so demanding.

Quizbabes again!

Caryn and Kristin nailed their debut, so they’re at it again tonight:

We’re running quiz night at Shotwell’s again this Monday!

There will be a category on the Baldwins so brush up. Normal music round this time! Emily Atkinson will be pouring your beers and there will be Mama Chuchos Mexican food.

Arrive by 8 to play. Best team name gets a point.

Seriously, I heard multiple reports that it was the most entertaining quiz night in town. I missed it because I was in Australia, and somebody Skyped me in the middle of the night just to tell me how great it was! RSVP and invite your friends!

Rock for tamales

The Bay Bridged tells us all about Thursdays benefit show/Tamale party:

The Knockout is hosting a benefit concert for The Tamale Lady this Thursday, September 19, and on top of live music from Grandma’s BoyfriendScraperWindham Flat and Quite Polite, there will be here will be more than enough FREE tamales to go around. All proceeds will go towards Virginia’s Indiegogo campaign, which still has a long way to go to reach its $50,000 goal. Come out to the party and show your support for one of San Francisco’s truly original characters, or simply head over to her Indiegogo page to donate what you can.

Small Crimes (aka Caryn Kesler) DJs American Tripps tonight

Beloved Mission partier Caryn Kesler has been real busy helping launch the new Mission-based radio station BFF.fm, but she’s taking time out of her schedule tonight, to perform before a real live audience at American Tripps:

It’s time once again for our reliable ol’ monthly party at DSF, right near the corner of Haight and Fillmore. Make a night of it with stops at any number of the Lower Haight’s fine watering holes and eateries, and then wash it all down with a night of BERLIN-STYLE PING PONG PARTY ACTION!

Making her American Tripps DJing debut this month is Small Crimes (of BFF.fm). Small Crimes says, via IM, “i’ve been deciding whether or not i want to play just electronica or like some electronic pop stuff too.” Sounds like a good dilemma to us!!!

Something fun happening at the new Adobe Books tonight

Have you had a chance to check out the new Adobe Books location on 24th Street yet?  If not, tonight’s the perfect excuse to visit and hang for a rad book reading and movie viewing:

  • The evening will begin with a reception at 7pm.
  • Then Jeremy and Matt will be skyping in to read certain passages of their book, Still Dots, from 8-8:30.
  • This will be followed by a rare screening of Carol Reed’s The Third Man starting at 8:30pm, starring Orson Welles.

Details here!

Also, now would be a good time to look back on the recent history of Adobe, courtesy of Andrew McKinley, the owner of the former 16th Street location, in this deeply personal account that he wrote on notebook paper:

Blame it on the Internet; it is so easy but oh, so true. The number of bookstores diminished quickly. The content and knowledge in them was available elsewhere. When we opened, we were one of five street-accessible shops within one block of 16th Street and Valencia Street. Now there will be none.
