Increased Demand for Rad Ferocious Few T-Shirts Leads to Barroom Brawl

The shirts are really rad, who can blame the guy?

Listen to the Ferocious Few here.

Ferocious Few Rock Treasure Island Harder Than Some of the Headliners

Ferocious Few Rock Treasure Island

Sure, there were dozens of highly paid touring acts on stage at Treasure Island this past weekend, but a highlight for me were local boys the Ferocious Few, who appeared at some kind of throwback carnival midway tucked back away from the main-stage action. They played at various intervals throughout both days of the fest, and drew big crowds every time.

These guys have traditionally done their best work on street corners (and in gutters), but I feel a change coming on. I think the festival organizers would do well to put them on one of the real stages next year.

Also, they’ve printed up some hot new t-shirts. Keep a lookout.

P.S. I took this picture clean through a big green tarp. Impressed?

'Off The Grid' Street Food Meetups Coming To Mission Playground

For the past three Fridays from 5-9pm, Matt Cohen (SF Cart Project) has been organizing “Off The Grid” meetups in Fort Mason where all your favorite independent food trucks gather and vie for your attention with their adorable, pun-filled, flavor-enhancing names. The event also features an alcohol tent and local live music. In fact, tonight the Ferocious Few will be playing at the event, if you’re not up to anything.

Last Friday, I hopped on the 49 and checked it out. Vendor favorites like El Haurache Loco, Soul Cocina, Chairman Bao, and Kung Fu Tacos were all in attendance. It was fun, although I must say I was a bit overwhelmed with the selection. I wasn’t exactly hungry or wealthy enough to spend $7 at three different trucks to try stuff out. Still, it was nice to know that there was one place I could count on all these guys to be once a week as opposed to following 50 twitter feeds.

Matt has been pushing to hold similar events in the Haight, Civic Center, and the Mission. After last night’s Parks and Rec meeting, he got his approval. The Mission location will be Mission Playground.

No word on when the permitting process will wrap up, but after chatting with him a bit last week, Matt seems like a pretty motivated dude and I’m sure he’ll get the ball rolling right away.

Four Bands in Dolores Park, Right Now!

Just finishing up work and wondering how you might be able to take advantage of the warm, sunny weather in the Mission today?  Well, head on over to Dolores Park for an evening featuring local faves the Ferocious Few along with talented up-and-comers Il Gato (who just released their new album All These Slippery Things), the Shants, and Wolf & Crow.

Bring a blanket (unicorn pattern works best), booze (might I suggest some champagne?), and a few friends (needn’t be ferocious) to check out one of those timeless summer shows that makes me proud I live in this neighborhood.  The fun starts at 6pm and lasts until dark!

Mission Sunday Streets.IV – Bike Bands & French Tacos

Some shots from this Sunday.  (As usual, click to zoom.)

Watching the World Cup final in the Valencia Street garage of the Mission tricycle stereo guy — thanks! (Sorry, Orange.)

The Ferocious Few on Valencia:

The lead singer telekinetically tuning his guitar:

Another rockin’ band on 24th…

…so rocking, in fact, that their house was doing that Flight of the Conchords wiggle:

Hey, look, another bike band Fossil Fool!

And my personal favorite: French Tacos! The Croque Monsieur (Croque Señor?) was particularly l’awesome.

All and all, a good day (but we really need it to go until at least 4 or 5 PM).  We can do this once a month, no?

On the downside, there was a curious lack of food vendors.  And while I’m sure it’s a permitting nightmare, I’d like to see the city help our favorite food carts get in on this.

Bush Bike

I’m not sure whether this was an art piece or just a guy hauling produce, but it was the highlight of my Sunday Streets. Except for the Ferocious Few show of course.

A bit refreshing to see a little piece of the Mission while in enemy territory.  They were belting out their ferocious rhythms at the end of the Panhandle and attracting quite a crowd.  Seems like they made some new fans, too!  I managed to count quite a few wasted sorority chicks approaching between songs trying to make out with them while mumbling, “So what are you guys called?  The Precocious Two?  I love you guys!”

One of them even tried to steal a t-shirt, but she was apprehended and reprimanded by the supportive crowd.  Her response?  Well, there’s not much you can do when outed as a kleptomaniacal douchebag other than a double-fisted middle finger salute.  Marriage material right there, eligible bachelors.

Look at this! The Ferocious Few have expanded their ranks! They were epic as a duo, but you can’t say no to a fuller sound.

Saturday we had the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival’s big free concert at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in John McLaren Park. Sunday we had Sunday Streets with all its roller-disco parties and drum circles, as well as the SF Symphony’s free performance in Dolores Park. Yet on both days, The Ferocious Few stole the show.

They’re impromptu and primitive, and also thoroughly entertaining. They’re drawing bigger and bigger crowds, so enjoy them now before they get signed and famous and start playing gutters in Monte Carlo or Beverly Hills or some shit instead of the Mission. Their CD, home made and usually available direct from the band (and pictured after the jump) is an extremely solid value.
