Did you witness a hate crime near 19th and Mission on Friday night?

From Missed Connections:

Needed: witnesses to a gay bashing outside of Taqueria Cancun (mission district)
Date: 2011-10-20, 10:39AM PDT

Did you witness a gay bashing outside of Taqueria Cancun (the one at 19th and Mission) Friday night? Eight men jumped out of a truck and attacked four, severely wounding one (continuing to stomp on his head as he was unconscious). This is a felony hate crime, and we need your support in prosecuting the perpetrators. Please step forward and contact me, because adding witnesses who are not victims help the case, and I’m sure if this happened to you, you would hope people would help, rather than just stand by, watch, and be glad it’s not them getting the beating. Thank you, and please contact anyone you think might have been in the area at that time and ask them. Much appreciated!

Benny Gold is closed for restocking, but they’ll be open Friday for the release of their new season

Of all the rad t-shirts I own, the one that gets by far the most compliments is my Benny Gold shirt:

So, here’s hoping the new season is just as dope.

(Thanks for the tips, Jason and Steven!)

Hug your laptops close

A little vignette courtesy of a Tumblrer named Lissy:

[A cafe in the Mission district. Someone steals an iPad out of a fellow cafe-goer's messenger bag and runs.]

  • Mark: Wow. What just happened?
  • me: Oh my God… I should have stopped him.

(hugging our laptops closer. a gray-haired grandpa walks past us. we eye him suspiciously)

  • me: (glancing back) I’m so paranoid now.
  • Mark: Maybe we should switch cafes….

See the little punchline here. And for goodness’ sake keep an eye on your gear.

Hey construction workers, it’s lovely up here in the part of the park not under construction

Why not knock off early and kick back and relax?

(But seriously, they’re doing important work down there. You can almost taste the improved drainage already.)

What kind of asshole do you park like?

Pyromaniac hoodlums start fire outside the Make-Out Room

It was small, but right up against a wall, could’ve gotten bigger. The gang stumbled away laughing:

Luckily, a good samaritan loped across 22nd Street in no time and stamped it out:

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
