Mission Bikes Grand Opening This Weekend

mission_bicycle_store_opening

Mission Bikes opens its new shop on Valencia today. Says our good buddy Monty:

They’re going to have beer and vegan food n’ stuff.

They’re definitely legitimate. I wrenched for 4 years before moving to the yay and helped them out when they were forming. They’re running a pretty solid operation these days.

Playground Plans Wow « Dolores Park View

Dolores Park View was dazzled along with other attendees at a planning meeting at which final(ish?) designs were revealed. Important things to note: “Super Slide” and “natural boulders.” Wicked! Check it all out here.

Nice Day for a Scavenger Hunt

HH2

Saturday 18 Reasons hosts an art opening and scavenger hunt. Among the artists featured is Mission Mission pal Ariel Dovas (eviloars on Flickr) who says, “The basics are that you hang out with some art, then you buy maps to go hunting for other art hidden around the neighborhood. Guaranteed to be awesome.”

And if that’s not enough to sell you, have a look at this KQED account of a previous 18 Reasons scavenger hunt event, complete with pictures and play by play:

Mr. Pickle Refurbed and Redeployed?

I mean, if this whole episode was some kind of elaborate witness protection relocation thing, sorry for blowing the whistle. But if not, at the very least, these two are clearly related, so what’s the story?

Has somebody told Jaime that if he got on Twitter suddenly people would be lined up around the block for some jello?

Thanks, Mai!

Bilingual Bike To Work Day Continues, In Chinatown

chinese

Stopped by the Spanish/English Energizer Station this morning, didn’t see a lot of Spanish going on, but Meli said there’d been a bit. More importantly, they had three varieties of Dynamo Donuts donuts, of which I tried 100%.

This evening, I plan to stop by the Chinese/English Energizer Station in Chinatown, which is being staffed by our friend Pauline. Pauline’s been practicing her spiel all day, so it’ll be good.

Click flyer to view it big.

Also, there’s the Bike Away From Work Party & Fashion Show at Rickshaw Stop at 6. It promises to feature: “Sexy cyclists strutting the lastest in urban biking style!”

If you’re like me and you think these pictures are cool, you might want to check out Art 4 Charity Gallery this evening. On display will be stuff like this by artist and gallery runner Debra Reabock, to eat you’ll find tapas and wine, and all proceeds go to International Green Shield, an organization dedicated to preventing natural disasters.

For more info, see the event’s Facebook page.

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
