Pork Injunction in Dolores Park

bbq_in_the_rain

It was thunderstorming in Dolores Park, but that did not stop the police from hassling Pork in the Park:

While I could deal with the rain and all that bullshit what I couldn’t deal with was the fucking cops rolling up on me. I see dude strolling up with his fucking citation book and figure I should probably turn down Mack Attack and deal with this bullshit. Dude asks for id and checks the shit while he fills out his No Fun Allowed slip. He realizes my birthday is in a few days and gives me a break but tells me I got to move. I explain that I’ve done this before and the park dudes are cool with it as long as I clean up. Then dude gives me some retarded opened ended answer like telling me to pack it up and move “if you can.” If I fucking can? So I can stay?  He doesn’t give me an answer and basically it boils down to I can kick it but if his lieutenant comes through I’m getting a ticket and kicked out.

Jaywalking On Capp

Everyone knows Jaywalking is a serious crime and we should not be surprised if we actually get caught.  That said, as reader Dan points out, it’s Capp St.:

Just wanted to share a recent experience that I thought would never ever happen in the mission. On Sunday I got a ticket for jaywalking across Capp street at 18th!

Forget the fact that Capp street is barely wide enough to be a street (no offense) and that it’s between the much busier Mission and South Van Ness. Being Capp, there was probably a shooting, burning mattress, drug deal, other felony, or crime against humanity happening on every other single block of Capp. But the cops decided that the best use of their time was to fine me for crossing at the intersection on a red light. Never mind that there were no cars anywhere in sight. When I got halfway towards Mission a cop car stopped to my left, the cop got out and asked if he could talk to me. It took me a few minutes just to realize I had done something, and that he wasn’t asking if I had witnessed some murder. I don’t know if this was to meet a quota or what, but you could tell even the cop couldn’t take what he was doing seriously. I’m all for pedestrian safety and following the law, and i consider myself somewhat of a cycling safety advocate, but a citation for crossing Capp is just not saving anyone. There’s no reason for a light to be at Capp and 18th except for city fundraising efforts.

Full Moon Mission

The Moon, Waxing

Well, we had another full moon last night. As we’ve talked about before things can get a little hectic out there. Add the bridge closure and all night BART, and you’ve got a handful of a weekend.

Two people shot at 16th and Julian.

Man kicking and punching woman at 17th and Mission.

I’d like to think I could summon up some Hard Harry wisdom at this point, that would make someone think twice before doing something stupid. But I can’t.

Be careful out there, people. Eat your cereal with a fork and do your homework in the dark.

Well, that one didn’t really work.

(Oh, sorry, one last thing: the above photo actually shows the moon from the other night, you know, when everyone was posting pics of the goddamn sky. So, not the real full moon)

UPDATE: As expected, Mission Loc@l tells a much fuller story of last night’s shooting.

Face down, ass up.

PSA: DO NOT Take Cushions Without Taking the Couch!

But don’t worry, passing out, puking, pissing, then defecating on the couch is NOT forbidden.  Just so long as you don’t take the cushions.

Left For Dead Face Down in the Street

Reader Kati J. sends us this interesting bit: “Found on Potrero by the skate park. Naked black (pantyhose) man left for dead face down in the street.”

“Would tagging it a hate crime be wrong?”

I sure hope not.

Street Food Purveyor Persecuted at Street Food Festival

Your Lunch writes:

This Saturday afternoon I was surrounded by four police, threatened with a misdemeanor and forced to leave the area for selling street food at the San Francisco STREET FOOD Festival. They forced me to show ID and confiscated a menu I had printed, presumably because it had my twitter account listed on it. One officer said that she would “remember my face” and that if she sees me selling food again she will make sure that I’m fined. I was sitting on a stoop selling organic, vegetarian Indian food that my sister and I made from scratch. Definitely a menace to society.

I liked that the festival got people venturing east of Mission Street for once. For blocks and blocks in every direction, sidewalks were inundated with pedestrians pedestriating their way to and from the fest. Surreal. The whole city descended on the Gang Injunction Zone to wait hour-long waits for huaraches.

Last Night on Capp and 19th

Plug1 of WHAT IM SEEING dot COM spotted this bust on Capp St. last night and took some great shots:

Last night, my wife and I had just eaten dinner at Cha Cha Cha and decided to meet her friends at Little Baobab.  There was a $5 cover charge, so I needed to hit an ATM.  I stopped into the corner store for some cash and a pack of cigs.  As I walked out 4 SFPDs swarmed the corner, where 2 fellows and and a young lady were standing around.  The police quickly cuffed all three.  I have no idea what they were being detained for.  When the guy in
[second to last photo] saw me photographing, he asked if I was going to put it on the internet.  I answered back “yeah” and one of the cops smiled at me.

In an unrelated Capp St. incident, Corinna spotted two people fleeing what appeared to be a fight at Doc’s Clock:

Walking back from  an awesome party, between Capp and Mission, two dudes were walking super fast down the street. One of them was changing his shirt, then the next one passed us, shirtless, covered in blood. As soon as we got to Mission we saw a bunch of cop cars driving around looking presumably for those dudes so we pointed them down 22nd. There was a huge crowd of people toward Doc’s Clock – I imagine something happened around there. But I have no idea what.

Capp was clearly the center of the action Friday night.
