Dance your public transit system clean

Here’s the deal with the SFTRU:

The San Francisco Transit Riders Union is a rider-based, grassroots organization working to improve public transit in San Francisco. We love public transit and are frustrated with the delays, slow travel times, and lack of funding. Our City is often on the cutting edge, but our transit system has fallen behind that of other major cities. San Franciscans have consistently supported public transit, and they deserve a reliable, robust, and 21st-century transit system. SFTRU is working to deliver that change.

Sounds good. Here’s the deal with Sunday’s event:

The fundraiser will take place during El Rio’s “Salsa Sundays” dance party and will be an opportunity for you to meet fellow transit enthusiasts, give a little cash toward the very righteous cause of better public transit for our city, and dance your pants off all at the same time! All proceeds at the door will go toward the San Francisco Transit Riders Union.

Sounds even better! RSVP and invite your friends!

LCD Soundsystem movie screenings to be preceded by pre-parties at Dalva to facilitate DANCING IN THE AISLES

Basically I was like, “These screenings are at 11pm on a Friday and Saturday night in the Mission. You guys need to have an official pre-party at a nearby bar so people can gather and get warmed up and then pack the place and DANCE IN THE AISLES!” So, here’s the info:

Dawson from Noise Pop is gonna take over the music and play nothing but LCD Soundsystem and related acts. Dalva has a great beer selection and killer fancy cocktails in the back room. THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

Listen to the new Social Studies single and see them at the Knockout on September 6

Finish off your Thursday with a chill jam courtesy of local fave Social Studies.  It’s the first single off their new upcoming album, which you helped make happen, and you can listen to it over at Nylon.  There’s also an interview with singer/keyboardist Natalia where she takes you behind the scenes into the song’s inception:

I wrote “Terracur” while I was working on music in the hills of Ukiah. I was living in a cabin on a break from the city, and trying to write music in a void. I got the idea for the song in a rocking chair on my back porch…

Read on and listen to the song here!

This bus loves Pancho Villa

Because A) this bus has taste and knows what Flavor is and why it still matters no matter what you think; B) said flavor is the flavor of toungey white lady skinny dipping in the salsa; and C) it was founded by Ron Swanson’s great great grandpappy. Maybe.

LCD Soundsystem concert film poster art made especially for this weekend’s screenings at the Roxie by Noise Pop’s Allison Gore

Seen here in the flesh at the theater, featuring some memorable imagery from the movie. Quite nice. The rest of the limited edition of high quality posters will be for sale this weekend at the screenings.

Read about the movie and buy advance tickets here. (And it looks like they added a September 1st screening too!) THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

Now let’s rock out to an oldie:

Finally some national political coverage we can all get truly excited about

Tumblr in its infinite wisdom has hired Sexpigeon‘s Tag Savage (and a few others) to cover the Republican and Democratic conventions! Like for real!

Here’s but a preview:

Ha! Me too! (And let me just point out that for years I’ve been saying Sexpigeon is the future of news.)

Gramophonify your iPhone

Artist Lawrence LaBianca fabricates these beauties in his studio right here in the Mission, and he’s got a Kickstarter campaign up and running (it’s met its goal, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still pledge and get in on the perks):

I discovered that a sound projected through a horn can create a sound environment. One can use the phone and have an intimate experience with sound while not overpowering the surrounding area. Imagine sitting at ones desk and wanting to listen to some music, while someone else within earshot is not disturbed.

Last, The idea of plugged in and unplugged at the same time is of interest to me. Plugged into technology with the iPhone. With a nod to the past and the beauty of pure form and visible function as in the Victrola. A perfect marriage of craft and technology.
