Farina’s opulent bathroom is a good place to piss during a dire bladder moment

Asked about her favorite interesting SF bathrooms, our pal Elly offers some sage advice:

i would never set foot in FARINA except to piss in their bathroom during a dire bladder moment.  which has only happened once, and i was conflicted about even peeing in their bathroom because i see FARINA as a psychogeographic symbol of various things which have been taken from san francisco over the past 7 to 10 years. anyway, the bathroom is upstairs and it’s really opulent. I will surely keep that in mind, especially now that Dolores Park’s new bathrooms are facing delays. Anyway, here’s a peek inside:

Looks cool.

Disaster comics

We heard air raid sirens yesterday afternoon despite it not being Tuesday at noon. Turned out it was just a test, but our pal The Fog Bender immediately began imagining the worst:

Mission Vegan: The detoxic avenger

Photo credit: The Detox Market Facebook page

I’ve been meaning to go into the Detox Market since they opened between 21st and 20th on Valencia. Our friends at Vegansaurus said nice things about them and they have some lovely window displays advertising vegan products. But let me be honest here: the word “detox” grosses me out. It makes me think of those embarrassing friends of friends (we all have them) who go on a weekend drinking and taco binge and show up to Sunday brunch only to order a side of fruit and proclaim that they’re “detoxing.” Fuck that. I hate that! They’ll spend that whole day eating fruit and drinking some sort of filtered lemon water and cayenne concoction talking about how it does “wonders” to their “system.” It is gross, but I digress.

LCD Soundsystem movie and pre-party reminder (and a little LCD Soundsystem flashback)

Such lovely posters! The yellow one will be for sale at the screening tonight, fyi.

Now let’s have a little flashback to another time LCD Soundsystem made Mission Mission. It was Treasure Island Music Festival 2010, the band was on tour behind “This Is Happening,” and it was real cold out:

“I’m used to there being a partially nude man next to me on stage,” Murphy says, referring to drummer Pat Mahoney’s penchant for short shorts. Last night on Treasure Island, where it was cold as grim death, Mahoney wore jeans, to the chagrin of short-shorts fans the island over.

Read on for more on the show and a pic of Murphy gesturing at a fully clothed Mahoney.

More importantly, tonight the LCD Soundsystem movie Shut Up and Play the Hits screens again at the Roxie, 11pm. And there’s yet another pre-party too, beginning at 9pm at Dalva. THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

Also, SFist made a big nice post about all of this, so you might want to get advance tickets.

Finally, if you’re like me and having a hard time waking up right now, this is dedicated to you:

Thanks, Matt!

Mission-based Boombotix makes portable speaker systems ideal for summer fun

Boombotix (whose little garage I’m sure you’ve passed a bunch of times on 23rd) gave us a Boombot a couple weeks ago and we’ve been testing it out. It makes a pretty big sound for its negligible size, so it’s lovely if you’re lazing on a deserted riverbank or blogging in the hammock out back and dying to pump up some jams. (Also, they don’t look super high-tech, so you worry less that it’ll be stolen if you leave it onshore when you go for a dip.)

They have a wireless version too, but I like the wired version plenty. And they both come in a variety of looks.

Plus, right now they’re giving away a Boombot AND tickets to the Treasure Island Music Festival!

Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos: Running Back and Forth

Every week, photographer Joshua Cobos shoots a roll of film just for us. He picks the best 13 photos and we post them here, and it’s called “Bad Blood with Joshua Cobos.” Here’s what Joshua has to say about this week’s installment:

These photos were shot while running back and forth between Oakland & SF. Images included are of the golden collective having tea in union square, big drag + the mallard playing at thee parkside, the beatles & lunch with Jackie Sugarlumps.

Thanks, Joshua! Ten more shots after the jump: (more…)

La Rondalla may be hitting on you

In continuing efforts to remind you that they’re still not open (but possibly working on it), La Rondalla has taken to giving out either compliments or tips, depending on who you are:

Um, guilty as charged?
