Win tickets to Hard French Pride Party 2011 at Public Works!

I’ve expressed my love for Hard French in the past and have been exhorting you all to see what the fun is all about for some time, and now you have the perfect opportunity:  The Hard French 2011 Pride Party at Public Works on Sunday, June 26th!  They folks behind this weekly afternoon party are kicking it up a notch for Pride with DJs and live performances by some of the fiercest acts in the Bay Area.

The best part is that we’re giving away two free tickets to whichever MM readers post the raddest Hard French photo in the comments below!  Include a link to the photo (and a caption if you’re clever) and we will announce the winner at the beginning of next week!  If you have a Facebook photo, be sure that it’s set to “public” so everyone can see it, or just post it on Flickr or something.

Oh my.  I almost forgot to mention that the special guest will be Erase Errata!  Check out the full press release after the jump:

Prince tribute show tonight + GIVEAWAY!

It’s Prince’s birthday today! He’s amazing! Yeah that whole Jehovah’s Witness thing is kinda weird, but it didn’t stop him from making lewd gestures at his Super Bowl performance like this:

To celebrate, the fabulous Jazz Mafia Allstars (you know, that group of guys that jammed with Stevie Wonder in the Mission that one time) are putting on an all Prince tribute night at the new Brick and Mortar club on Duboce and Mission. Doors are at 8, show at 9.  Cover is $10.

The Jazz Mafia All-Stars featuring Joe Bagale, Joe Cohen, Matt Berkeley, Adam Theis and Jon Monahan will take you through the Prince catalog in celebration of his Birthday month!  Guests to include Crystal Monee Hall, Uriah Duffy, Chris Mcgee, Soulati and Infinite (Felonious MCs), Ryan Greene, DJ Teeko, Sonya D and Many more!

Do you want to go? Post a comment telling us why you deserve these two complimentary tickets and we’ll pick the best answer by 6pm tonight. Be sure to post using your real email address, ok?

DJ Moondoggy was kind enough to give us a taste of what he’ll be spinning tonight:

What life was like back in the ’90s (if you were the girl who told Kurt Cobain he smelled like Teen Spirit)

Debaser was so much fun last night (as promised), it seemed fitting this morning to keep the party going by watching this video of Kathleen Hanna telling some behind-the-scenes tales about the making of “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” It’s kinda long, and you’ve gotta really be in the mood for some Kathleen Hanna, but it’s fun:

The ’90s come back to life tonight at Debaser’s ‘Greatest Hits Edition’

I asked DJ Jamie Jams to send me a video that would sum up his expectations for tonight’s very special party. Here it is:

Here are some relevant details from the official invite:

We’ve accumulated a lot of random stuff in three years of doing 90′s theme parties.

Come and hear us put the whole thing in the beat blender for a classic party style set.

Special guest Richie Panic joins us for an epic, melt your face off run through the classics.

$5, Free w/ Flannel before 11pm.

And here’s what Jamie has to say about tonight’s special guest:

Jason’s been DJ’ing since the dawn of time, like 12 years or something, and actually started as a britpop DJ like a million years ago.

I actually got into DJ’ing because we all use to go to his party Fan Club in the basement of the Li Po Lounge in like 2002.

He’s going to throw some classic riot grrl into the mix too, so it should be sick.

Siiick! RSVP and invite your friends here.

Oldies Night is tonight!

Mission Mission on Tumblr (mostly a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Mission Mission) yesterday posted an mp3 of a rare track by the Shirelles called “I Met Him on a Sunday (1966).” When Primo played it at the last edition of Oldies Night, it blew minds. All over the dance floor. Expect more of the same, tonight at the Knockout.

Listen to the song in question here.

New local music blog launches tonight at El Rio!

Night Fog Reader, our favorite new controversial local music blog, is having an official launch party tonight at El Rio. The event’s Facebook page has detailed details on all the participating entertainers, and you can RSVP and invite your friends.

Here’s a rad picture I took of Ryan Grubbs last fall:
