Reader Bryan Haggerty pointed us toward this Improv Everywhere video, in which a bunch of people gather in the park and listen to the same mp3 at the same time. The mp3 tells them to do stuff, and they do it, and it’s all sponsored by Yahoo! and they got a helicopter to shoot aerial footage. Link.

Tonight is the kickoff of Video Fest 2008, held at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.  The festival this year received 49 different film submissions of which 17 will be shown either tonight (10/17) or tomorrow (10/18).  From the festival blog:

Video Fest 08 is focused on people’s existence and their surroundings, the relationships that develop between the human being and nature, community, family and their social surroundings.

Although I have not often ventured into the Mission Cultural Center, the couple of times that I did, I was extremely impressed.  Once I heard some really good jazz that had people stopping in their tracks and turning the sidewalk into an impromptu theater.  Another time I saw an absorbing exhibition featuring photos snapped by kids and young adults.  If past experience is any clue, this should be good.

A kind reader sent this cute video in, noting that Dolores Park plays a significant role. And boy, if more election-season ads featured our gorgeous park and a lot of funny swearing, maybe I’d still watch regular TV.

Tonight at 10pm, Doc’s Clock hosts a screening of Last Call, a short thriller about life, love and dive bars by filmmaker Kurt Weitzmann:

Last Call is the story of a “regular” who is trying to hang on as the last threads of his life unravel. A pathetic and desperate man is kicked out of his neighborhood bar at last call. He then pulls a gun and holds the young and ineffectual bartender hostage with the threat of his own suicide.
