Cardburg is Back!

Only it’s in Oakland this time, and there’s a racetrack. Apparently they’ve been racing high-octane cardboard vehicles (?) all month. Last week were the semifinals. Tonight, the finals. And with music by Eats Tapes, our new favorite band!

It all happens at LoBot at 8pm.

Ping Pong Happy Hour Tonight!

happyhour_applegate

Ping Pong Gallery‘s Ping Pong Happy Hour IS totally rad. It only happens about once a quarter, so I spend a fair amount of my life looking forward to it. Free Trumer Pils, lots of ping pong.

That said, it’s a bummer when nobody can beat me, so bring your skillz.

For more on PPG and PPHH, read my profanity-filled Q&A with gallery co-owner Joey.

Food and Fashion Tonight at Mission Street Food

Two weeks ago, my friend Mike and I ran into Mai from Fashionist in line at Mission Street Food. Mike and I are quite fashionable, so Mai took some pictures and the whole thing resulted in probably the best Fashionist post to date.

As part of tonight’s fan appreciation night, MSF and Fashionist are teaming up for real. Mai will be out front meeting fashionable diners all night long, photos will be posted soon thereafter, at which point voting will commence. The best-dressed folks get a free future dinner (wine included). Link.

Ribity at Night

So I’m totally not posting this to glorify vandalism. I’m posting it because it was sent to me by Plug1 and I’m thrilled to see he’s embracing the lo-res! Despite his considerable talent with the hi.

He saw this Ribity at U-Haul on Valencia.

Productive and Uptight Vs. Marginal and Odd

randy-robinson

Chris Colin just got in touch to tell us about a piece of his just published at SF Gate:

Randy Robinson was an intelligent, wonderfully demented man I came to know when I rented him my office space in the Mission. Randy’s oddness toed the line of inappropriateness, and soon many of the other folks in the shared office wanted him gone. The strange, sad events that followed struck me as a micro version of the friction that’s flared up in the Mission and million other communities in recent years — the productive and uptight versus the marginal and odd. Both sides were sympathetic here, as is often the case in Mission disputes, but the end result was unambiguously heartbreaking.
