The Pi Is Nigh!

This post only exists to shame Burrito Justice for passing up such a choice rhyming opportunity.

Recife for Fun

When our pal Sangroncito isn’t taking beautiful pictures of the Mission, he’s probably taking beautiful pictures of Brazil. In this case, a gorgeous aerial look at Recife. I mean, we’ve all seen gorgeous aerial shots of Rio and São Paulo a jillion times, but who the hell had any idea what Recife looked like?

Well, it looks quite nice!

Broke-Ass Brock

Yay! Today’s Broke-Ass Stuart Broke-Ass of the Week is Brock Keeling of SFist (and, thus, this is the best edition yet). Brock shouts out Bender’s (no surprise), offers up the notion that walking around downtown on the weekends can be fun (surprise), and supplies my new favorite answer to the question “Despite not having any money, do you still love your life?”

Real Crimes

This week’s I Heart Street Art is nothing compared to the first comment in its comment thread, from none other than Plug1:

next time im out wasted (which wont take long), im going to walk down Mission b/t 22nd and 18th and report each individual tag with an individual phone call.

why not set up 811 or something for those vile taggers, and leave 911 for the real crimes such as murder or doing blow while fucking your best friends wife and then running for Governor.

Snap! And I thought the Plugs and the Mayor were tight.

Don't Pick It Up

Mission and Highland today published this gripping documentary surveying the shit ton of refuse piled up around Mission and Highland and vicinity. Choice soundtrack too:

Pork in the Park

Plug1 had a nice weekend in the park:

yesterday, my buddy SergDun of Beer & Rap cooked a 16 lb pork shoulder on Dolores near 18th in Dolores Park. an 80′s boombox/cassette deck was there as well blasting OG Bay Raps like Cellski and Hardcore Metal bands like Rigor Mortis.

SergDun swears more than anyone i have ever met, so yesterday was a nice mix of obnoxiously loud music, non-stop curse words, and smoking pork.

See the boombox, the finished meat product and rest of the fun after the jump:

Loose Chains

Okay, so what happens when somebody assaults the swing set leaving two chains dangling free? What happens when some shitty kid grabs one of the loose chains and whips it into some other kid’s eye? What happens when the dirtbike cop instead of dealing with this is perched high on the hill surveying Pabst consumption?

Totally non-creepy photo of a child at play in a playground by mattymatt.

Gravel & Gold Opens Its New Doors

gravel and gold

I’ve actually never been to Gravel & Gold the store, but I’ve long been a fan of their blog. They recently relocated from ActivSpace to the old Minnie Wilde spot on the corner of 21st and Lexington, and tomorrow they open to the public for the first time.

Au Revoir, Karen

Karen, to many of us the face of Mission Street Food, is moving on. Say it ain’t so!

After almost a year of Mission Street Food, though, I have to say goodbye–for now–because I’m starting a job as a professor in another state. Anthony will continue Mission Street Food with the help of our incredible staff, but this will be my last week at the restaurant.

Karen’s full open letter, and this week’s Ottoman menu, here.
