Saturday Sidewalk Planting and Mural Completion Celebration at Mission Pie

c6e

Mission Pie has a lot going on this weekend. Tomorrow morning they’re planting the sidewalk along the 25th Street side of the building, and then they’ll have a little celebration of the completion of that task as well as the completion of the mural out back. On Sunday afternoon, they invite everyone inside to celebrate the completion of the interior, and say a big thanks to the folks and firms that helped finish it up.

Complete details here.

Thanks, Ashleigh!

Ping Pong Happy Hour Tonight!

HappyHour_Jetts

Once again it’s time for my favorite quarterly activity, Ping Pong Happy Hour at Ping Pong Gallery! Ping pong, music and FREE TRUMER PILS as usual. Starts right at 5:00, ends at 8:00.

Tonight, we say goodbye to the Jetts (pictured), a ping pong duo beloved by all at the gallery, who are apparently moving on to bigger and better things.

For more on PPG and PPHH, read my profanity-filled Q&A with gallery co-owner Joey.

Bender's Kitchen Staff Update: Good News

08-06-09_1922

Behind the counter three nights a week these days is none other than my man Justin, one of the geniuses that helped make the Rosamunde Sausage Grill/Toronado Burger Tuesday tradition so god damn amazing. Justin rules, and the fact that he’s at Bender’s now is a good thing for everyone.

Guerilla Film Screenings on Muni All Day

Brenda C. says:

My friend and I put together a u.s. west coast film tour of experimental shorts. We’re currently on tour; our first show is tonight in Portland but I wanted to give you the heads up for our SF show on Friday, August 7th.

For SF, (since that’s where I live) we are planning on doing something a little different. We are going to project the films, with sound, inside the muni — lines N, J, and L.

The majority of the films being screening are made by local sf filmmakers and more info can be found [here].

Asked about a route, she continues:

We’re planning on starting off on the N at Ocean Beach. When we get to Embarcadero, we’ll transfer to the J and head out to the Mission. Eventually, we’ll make our way to the L most likely starting from somewhere in the sunset or maybe in the castro.

Sewer Tree

The other night I was on Taylor Street in some other neighborhood and I saw a tree growing in the sewer. I need to visit other neighborhoods more often.

Cop Watching

Police/Cops
Does anyone else notice that there are a lot of cops around tonight?

Low-Prof Plainclothes stopping dealers; Blue-Suited Busters pulling over people who don’t have a license and barely seem able to drive (seen here); and Red Zone Rollers lurking in their cars, watching the 16th and Mission Thursday Slam Jam.
