Get This: Potrero Del Sol is a Park, Not Just a Skatepark

And it’s a nice one too! Hilly, green, wooded, with views of Sutro Tower and the freeway and skaters skating in the skatepark, a playground full of lots of interesting gadgets, and a bandstand from which Thee Oh Sees can totally rock my world.

Dolores has a cute little competitor.

(Also, I realize this is not necessarily news, but everyone I talked to was like, “Have you been here before? I haven’t, this is great!” So I’m sure it’s news to plenty.)

Pop-Up Thai/Vietnamese Brunch at Doc's Clock

That’s right! Thai/Vietnamese Brunch! At Doc’s Clock for god’s sake! Mission Mission pal Linda L. has the rundown:

Heads up!
There is a new pop up eatery on Sunday’s at Doc’s Clock, a little enterprise called Three Papayas.

Thai / Vietnamese brunch. Cheap as all hell, only $8 an entree.
The menu changes every week but the Three Papayas Salad is always featured. All home made, all fresh ingredients!

Nice place to duck out of the sun, have a morning cocktail and eat.

Took the liberty of writing down last Sunday’s menu. You can friend them on Facebook for more info.

-Bunny Chao: South African Indian Curry
-Three Papaya Salad
-Pork Ramen
-Vietnamese Crepe (pork and Shrimp or vegetarian)

A couple of weeks ago they feature pork dumplings and Chicken Pho

Noon to 4pm

I can’t wait!

The first Yelp review adds that the enterprise is the brainchild of “underground superstar chef” Tawei, formerly of guerilla-ish operations at Yamo, Bender’s and Thee Parkside.

Update: Pork Ramen photo by tackyy.

Shark Week

shark week

Check it out, another Tumblr blog featuring cell phone pictures of weird shit on the streets of San Francisco. This one’s somewhat unimaginative name is SF Shots, and last week (Shark Week, appropriately enough) they came across this: a god damn shark draped across the top of a trash bin at 16th and Valencia.

Is Dolores Park the New Nantucket?

Airfix Kits at Pissed Off Pete's in the Excelsior

Airfix Kits are one of my favorite Bay Area bands ever, and tonight they’re playing at Pissed Off Pete’s, some weird dive bar on Mission out in the Excelsior. I’ve passed it a million times on the way to the Broken Record, and admired their signage, but never thought anything cool would ever happen there. The Shitty Limits sound pretty good too.

Everyday People in the Mission

Says Jeremiah Maller the photographer:

I instantly fell in love with the Mission neighborhood when I moved to San Francisco about two years ago. When I recently moved to the Mission (3 months ago) I started documenting the people I run into on the street. See the results in the Mission Faces gallery [here].

What a document! Nice faces, y’all!
