Sad Bastard You've Never Met Whines Online

We ran into SF Appeal film critic Alex “Barky” Barkett the other night at Bender’s, and he seemed like he was having a pleasant enough evening, but it turns out he was having a pretty shitty evening. Lucky for us, he’s spun it into gold — in the form of the best weekend entertainment roundup ever written.

Hang in there, Barky.

Ghetto Frida's Mission Memories

Artist Rio Yanez just finished a new mural outside Galeria de la Raza. It’s called Ghetto Frida’s Mission Memories and look, it looks great on video.

Hunter Thompson at the O.J. Trial

Romenesko, everyone’s favorite media nerd blog, today points us to a tale of woe. Local hero Phil Bronstein was apparently this close to convincing Hunter to cover the O.J. trial. But, alas, it was not to be.

Waiting for a red light at the corner of 19th and South Van Ness last night around 10:00, a squad car got a call of a disturbance (presumably). Sirens blared and they gunned it through the intersection — but not before throwing most of a grande latte overboard.

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
