Despite technically having nothing to do with the Mission, this video has everything to do with the Mission.
Skip past the first 45 seconds and rock out:

Conrad sends in a link to a post on Djangology.net. It seems Gaucho guitarist Dave Ricketts’ axe was stolen from Amnesia the night of September 30th.

Gumshoe that I am, I took to the case immediately by contacting my awesome friend Vic (LADIES: HE’S SINGLE!), who often sits in with the gypsy jazz band. He sent in the above image, and the following:
It’s a dell arte “minor swing” model guitar. Note the pick wear right below the strings by the bridge and the Gaucho sticker on the cutaway. These sorts of guitars are pretty distinctive so it should be easy to spot if it pops up somewhere.
More details: it was stolen out of the back room at amnesia sometime after Gaucho finished their set at 10pm at Sep 30. It was in a blue Alpine brand gig bag. Thanks Kat… some might call you a hero…
Oh, whoops, totally didn’t mean to include that last sentence.
Send any clues this way! Rumor has it Dave Ricketts has found a suitable replacement, but I’m sure he’d appreciate getting his old guit-box back.
Related: if you ever have a chance to make it to Amnesia Wednesday for gyspy jazz night, prepare to shit your pants over its novelty. A scene like no other. Whew. I recommend it.
A tipster informs us that Lark in the Morning has shut their doors because they can’t stand for their world class music to be near such mediocre pizza. ”Moving guys are there clearing everything out.”
Hey now, this looks pretty decent:

Budget Rock 8 starts tonight with a kick-off party at the Eagle Tavern starring Cheap Time and Hunx and His Punx, and ends Sunday night with hearthrobs the Gris Gris and Thee Oh Sees at Bottom of the Hill. The festival features a collection of shows from some pretty big deal Bay Area garage-influenced bands.
Shows move back and forth between Thee Parkside and Bottom of the Hill Friday on. The biggest hoopla of the weekend appears to be a pair of reunion shows by The Mummies Saturday. Catch ‘em while they’re hot!
I’ve been meaning to see Hunx and His Punx at some point, as I find their music videos mesmerizing. An example:
Phewf. Yeah?
[From The Bay Bridged]

Reader Heather M. sends us a hot tip about hot lunch:
“you’ve seen the ‘wooden flyers’ that the guys from hot lunch are putting up around the neighborhood?”
Turns out that hot lunch is putting up skateboards all over the Mission advertising a show on Oct. 10th at El Rio. Best of all, a skeleton is flipping me off. Classy.
Did you know that Cha Cha Cha was Mariachi-Free? Bummer.
This has to be violating some sort of discrimination law.
