What did you listen to while viewing last night’s blood moon?

I listened to Rancid:

Also, here’s a better Rancid song also about riding the bus:

And the ska version is pretty great too:

The Bay Bridged says the SF music scene is ‘Not Dead Yet’

The popular local music entity presents the evidence in a lengthy and heartfelt blog post, which is also the official announcement about this upcoming festival:

Why it’s a bad idea to try to rob Viracocha

Judging from the music video of latest from Atmosphere, security seems pretty tight at Viracocha on Valencia and 21st. Keep that in mind next time you’re thinking about shoplifting that moss-covered log with the Edison bulb screwed into it.

If you’re going to the Future Islands show tonight

…arrive early enough to see opening act Ed Schrader’s Music Beat. Don’t look them up or listen to them first or anything. Just be there — and be ready for some serious shit.

(Especially if you paid $200 for your ticket on StubHub and really gotta get your money’s worth.)

Now let’s rock:

A cool decades-spanning ‘last songs on albums’ playlist you can play on the Mission Bar jukebox for just $1

Hear Jonathan Richman celebrate the life and music of Lou Reed this Sunday on Radio Valencia

And it’s on Lou Reed’s actual birthday! Here’s the deal:

Jonathan Richman is coming on Wax! Crackle! Pop! and we’re dedicating two hours to Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. Lou would have turned 72 on March 2. It’s well known that the Velvets were a huge influence on Jonathan and The Modern Lovers. We’ll play some of our favorite VU songs and chat about Lou and the immense legacy he left behind.

Sounds killer! Tune in this Sunday, 10-midnight: radiovalencia.fm

The official Mission Mission Noise Pop show starring No Age is tonight

Let’s listen to everyone on the bill…

RSVP and invite your friends and get advance tickets! If you want.

Noise Pop 2014 starts TODAY!

Here are five things I’m looking forward to:

1. Punk Rock Fancy tonight

This is the festival’s official opening night party, featuring DJ sets by legends Bob Mould, Shepard Fairey and Jello Biafra! Right here in the Mission at Noise Pop HQ!

2. The Limousines @ DNA Lounge tomorrow

We wrote about these guys way back in 2009 after a local blog pointed out that they’d written “the Tumblr anthem.” It’s a great jam. Read all about it.

3. Future Twin + Cocktails @ Bender’s Friday, happy hour

These two bands rule. And Bender’s rules. And it’s presented by the Bay Bridged, which rules.

4. No Age @ Bottom of the Hill presented by Mission Mission Friday

This is our show! No Age RULES!

5. Mikal Cronin @ the Chapel Saturday

Mikal Cronin live at the Mission’s hottest new rock venue? Yes, please!

Check out the Tapatio-themed poster for this Noise Pop show at the Chapel

Too bad it conflicts with our No Age show :(

(Noise Pop 2014 kicks off tomorrow, y’all!)
