B. Hamilton, the straight-faced rock ‘n’ roll band fronted by never-straight-faced Oakland-based social commentator Ryan Christopher Parks, has been putting the finishing touches on this thing for about 2 years I think. And it was worth it.
It’s a gem:
If you like it, tell your friends.

I guess KronnerBurger is due to finally open any day now, at their new permanent location on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. This is the first photographic evidence we’ve seen that things are getting underway.
I’m real excited about that English muffin, and whatever the “frilly” thing is on the burger.

I got tipped off to see John Moreland last night at Thee Parkside by a friend who saw him at Stagecoach last weekend. My friend had to see him again. I’m glad I came along. His powerful and beautifully poetic lyrics melted out of him. Watching John Moreland was mesmerizing. He sang of his truths and sadness and Tulsa, OK, and of a home he no longer called home. An exciting discovery, and hopefully a musician who will continue to glow in the limelight he deserves (but doesn’t seem to want or care about). Listen to his whole new album, High on Tulsa Heat, and hear it for yourself.
It’ll come as no surprise that Lost Weekend Video has long been in danger of having to close up shop. Netflix, HBO Go, Popcorn Time, etc. But they’ve been on Valencia Street since the late ’90s, they’re a living relic of the Mission’s storied past, AND they’re continually taking cool steps toward remaining relevant and exciting.
Firstly, they started up the basement Cinecave performance space where they’ve been doing all kinds of cutting-edge comedy the last couple years. More recently, they’ve welcomed 1-2-3-4 Go! Records in to share the space, and hopefully that’s revving up business a little.
But also, with the help of some crowdfunding, they’d like to do all of this:
We will enhance & expand our video & retail services to better serve the needs of the 21st Century film enthusiast, including:
On their crowdfunding page, for different donation levels you get all sorts of perks, like free video rentals and cool shirts and stuff. 32 hours left to donate! Check it out.
