Pizza + Beer + A Transcendental Number = Pi Bar

"Oh, you're so witty."

"Oh, you're soo witty."

It looks like “Pi Bar” will soon be filling the space left by Suriya Thai.

“I got an odd letter in the mail today, informing me that a new alcohol purveyor was opening on my street. Well, sure, I’ll take another one of those! Reading further I found out that this new establishment will be called Pi Bar and is setting up shop at 1432 Valencia—also known as the space where Suriya Thai used to be.” (link)

Outrage Machine: If you feel like getting all riled up, the uppity Vegans over at vegansaurus! are already lobbying the owners to introduce some Vegan options.  Eh, I personally think people should call for them to repaint the awesome elephant that was formerly outside the building.  Or, you know, eat Zantes.

(hat tip vegansaraus!)

Biker being loaded into an ambulance near 20th and Valencia. Looked like he’d been hit, but can’t be sure. Careful out there, friends.

Attack Blackbird Comes to Capp?

swoops-on-capp

It looks like there is another “Swoops” on 800 block of Capp St.  That’s right, some aggro Brewer’s Blackbird has moved into the neighborhood.  While I could not find its nest, it sure seemed interested in warding off “gentrification” as I walked by.

Does anyone think CNN will come out and film on Capp St.?  Yeah, probably not.

Bicycle Music Festival Saturday

bmf-poster-web-bigger

For one of those “only-in-SF” experiences, be sure to check out the “Bicycle Music Festival” Saturday in Dolores Park (among other places).  Bicycle-powered sound systems and musicians performing in the middle of rides across town? fuck ya.

Subterranean Lair / Wine Bar Opens Beneath Limon Rotisserie

Picture 2

For all of the C.H.U.D.s in the Mission, be sure to check out the new wine bar that just opened in the basement of Limon Rotisserie.  Urban Daddy checked out “Lounge at Limon Rotisserie” and brings news of their rotating South American and Spanish wine list and “South American–style debauchery.”

This subterranean spot is a supper club meets Studio 54 version of a wine bar, where you can get your ceviche and lomito saltado fix from the restaurant upstairs but in a moodier setting (read: dim lighting and a DJ spinning salsa), then sit back with a bottle of cava or Malbec (or both).

Mission Delores Park

Burrito Justice points out that the Google Maps Staff clearly doesn’t go to Dolores Park too often:

The New York Times Saves Money in the Mission

nyt-eats-at-papalote

I love a soyrizo burrito as much as the next person, but where's the love for Cancun?

After the New York Times travel section spent a weekend in the Mission last fall, today they decided to come back to the neighborhood for their “Save or Splurge” section.  Naturally we are the neighbor to “save” money in and the rich-folk are advised to steer clear and head to North Beach.

In a daring move, the NYT decided get involved in “the great burrito debate.”  Sure to incite controversy, they named El Farolito, El Metate and Papalote the three spots to get a “great burrito.”  Also, the word is now out on Little Baobab and their awesome hibiscus margaritas.

I Want to Know How This Lady Got Her Cat to Be Calm Long Enough to Wear This Outfit

Reader Megan, in the comments, turned me onto a great MUNI blog, The Deuce Deuce.  While quickly browsing through the archives, I came across this serious-looking cat:

gato-mexico-22

Serious Cat wants you to get serious about Mexico.

I got on the 22 Fillmore.  I’ve lived around the corner from it for 20 years.  You never know what you’re gonna find.

I see this woman sitting there with a CAT in PUBLIC, on the BUS, dressed in a kitty-sized SOMBRERO with the word “Mexico” embroidered on it and looking completely serious like there was nothing wrong with any of it. — Lisa Geduldig

AWESOME.
