The best sandwich in SF is Pink Zebra’s “Crokune”

Screen Shot 2016-05-02 at 11.00.11 AM

It’s a skewer of tsukune (chicken meatball), hot off the yakitori grill, and they pop it on an everything croissant (by Neighbor Bakehouse in the Dogpatch), along with some tasty sauce! It’s the best! I could’ve eaten four in a row, but I only had two, and then I just dreamed about it for a rest of the weekend, and I wish I could have another one right now. It’s the best sandwich in SF!

Problem is, Pink Zebra‘s yakitori popup is only every now and then, so keep an eye on their Instagram for dates and times.

Life is short. Drink early.

Hunger strike, one week in

Screen Shot 2016-04-28 at 1.54.57 PM

Mission Local reports:

The day after a group of hunger strikers held a rally outside the Mission District police station that saw more than 100 people chant for the firing of the city’s police chief, the group of nine began the seventh day of their fast – tired but determined.

“We’re getting pretty weak,” said Edwin Lindo, a candidate for District 9 supervisor who has camped outside of Mission Station for a week to demand that Police Chief Greg Suhr be fired or resign. Lindo briefly fainted on the second day of the strike, and an ambulance pulled up to the strikers on Wednesday morning to monitor their vitals.

“We’re getting low on blood sugar,” Lindo said.

Mayor Ed Lee responded to the hunger strike for the first time on Tuesday, saying the strikers had a right to protest but that he would not fire the chief and that he intended to allow current departmental reform plans to proceed. Chief Suhr also responded and said he had no intention of resigning.

It’s a super beautiful day

Hey hey it’s a beautiful day

These AWESOME sandwiches I had at Clare’s Deli today

FullSizeRender 11

In the foreground is the “Purple Rain,” which features a really nice helping of smashed blackberries. It’s the best use of fruit on a sandwich since the ham and banana sandwich at Cafe St. Jorge.

In the background is the “Island,” which has some shrimps and some slaw and this AMAZING kinda-hot-kinda-sweet sauce.

They were both on today’s specials board, so I’m not sure how long they’ll be around, but Clare’s Deli is doing lots of great stuff lately, so do check it out.
