Creativity Explored Art Sale

I know you already read SFist, but I want to mention this anyway. Creativity Explored‘s Annual Holiday Sale starts tonight and runs weekends through 12/23. They’re at 3245 16th Street, between Dolores and Guerrero. So you can get a slice at Deja Vu afterwards. Anyway, check it out, it’s good stuff. I have a few pieces from years past.

Here are some images grabbed from Flickr to give you an idea of their artists’ work.

WHAM! You've Come a Long Way, Baby

I pass by this Virginia Slims ad in the window of Thanasi’s Market on 23rd/Valencia every day and smile to myself.  Finally, a cigarette for ME!  Gentlemen, you simply wouldn’t understand.

Anthropologists: what era is this ad from?  My guess is 1992.  No use replacing the ad with a new one, the ’90s are cool again.

Cat Drinking Hamm's

Honestly, I didn’t even read this poster or click on a link to find out what it is all about because it is a cat drinking Hamm’s.

Cool Kid Travels: Paris

Check this: reader Mission Mistaken was just in Paris and stumbled across this museum featuring an installation of graffiti as pop art.  Nothing really shocking here, but it is another check in the column of legitimizing graffiti as an art form.

I was just in Paris and the Cartier Foundation Museum (yes, as in tank watches & diamonds) featured a comprehensive show on the history of graffiti as pop art.  But being French they couldn’t just settle for a tame treatment.  Rather, everything was game for a coating of spray paint.  The building exterior, even the basement corridors and the bathrooms.

you're a fucking asshole. merry x-mas

I’m really enjoying these free Christmas cards that you can get at Bender’s.  I already send one to my parents with a little note inside to show them how much I love them:

Spidey Dollar

Saw this dollar taped to the tip jar at Philz.  Thought it looked pretty cool but was shocked at their complete disregard for the federal laws about vandalizing cash money.  Don’t worry commenters, I called the FBI and reported the offense.

You can sleep soundly tonight.

Free Fortune Telling on 24th

Just spotted this on that big empty near Philz on 24th that is always covered in shitty tags.  Looks like the city is initiating a new project Art in Store Fronts to spice up empty storefronts, something that I probably would have heard about a couple of months ago if I actually read the news.  Anyways, in this case, you can leave questions for a fortuneteller to answer.  Brilliant stuff like:

q: #1 If I masturbate, am I still a virgin?
#2 Can I ask another question?
a: No, you cannot ask a second question?

q: What will I get for Christmas?
a: You will probably get drunk.

q: Will I grow up?
a: You don’t grow up, you throw up.  And then your mama comes around the corner and shit licks it up.

q: ¿Cómo se dice corn?
a: Maíz

Cool Kid Travels: Somerville, MA

Somerville, MA:  I never spent much time there when I lived in Boston, but it is sort of a dystopian Mission District.  Baby strollers and dogs mixed with white kids in flannel drinking tallboys.  That said, they have some pretty epic street art, especially from one guy “on walls.”  Enjoy.
