In a discussion about violence at neighborhood clubs, reader Micah shares a story:
A couple weeks ago some friends and I were followed home from the Beauty Bar by a couple sketchy dudes that had been hitting on them. Things escalated and ended with dude throwing a punch at one of the girls I was with and getting pepper sprayed in response.
Throwing a punch at one of the girls? Luckily it sounds like he didn’t land it, but what’s with all the punching of girls lately? (There’s this, and there’s Tracy getting punched in the purse.)

SFist brings us word of the latest swastika bombing in the Mission, at Esta Noche, noting that it was probably motivated by homophobia (rather than by some girl’s beef with a mural artist).
Some kind of crime or something was committed at Beauty Bar last night!! Or near Beauty Bar. Maybe. Christi reports:
Anybody know what happened last night @ or by Beauty Bar? Police cars, firetrucks, crowds on the street, oh my!!
More importantly, do you guys think there is a crime being committed in this completely unrelated photo I just found?
UPDATE: Torrey fills us in: “A bartender kicked some dude out for groping girls, dude started a fight, and a third party maced them both, which, as you can imagine, exacerbated the situation. Authorities were summoned. Not a whole lot of fun for anyone involved (I wasn’t there but the bartender is a friend. A friend who, I might add, often puts himself in harm’s way in order to protect the honor/safety of his patrons. Three cheers for chivalry).” Thanks, Torrey!

We hope it wasn’t anything like when that dick cabbie robbed our friend and left her for dead (allegedly) a couple years back.
In any case, it happened “late last night” and already you’ve printed up this gorgeous banner and had it expertly mounted? You’re a wonder!
Some dude tried to mug my friend Tracy last Monday night on the corner of 18th and Mission. She was standing near Yamo waiting to catch the 33 at about 10:30pm. She was checking the bus schedule on her iPhone when she noticed out of the corner of her eye a figure coming toward her in a deliberate fashion. She gripped her phone tighter.
With two hands, the man tried to grab it, but Tracy had it firmly and pulled away. She was repeating, “No,” and looking him in the eye. He looked down at her purse, which she had slung over her shoulder and around her torso, and then back at her face. She waited for him to act. She held her phone tight, and that purse wasn’t going anywhere.
In frustration, the man punched the purse, and walked away.
Tracy thinks that by making eye contact and keeping calm, she freaked the dude out. And she says that if she hadn’t been aware of her surroundings, he might easily have snatched the phone and been gone in a flash.
Here’s something else Tracy was aware of: There were people all around. Lots of people: Waiting for the bus, walking by. There was a woman right behind her talking on her phone. Nobody said or did anything.
The lessons? Always be aware of your surroundings, stay calm, and don’t necessarily count on the kindness of strangers. (Although, it’s possible the presence of all those people might have kept the dude from going to greater lengths to acquire Tracy’s riches. So maybe another lesson is thank goodness Mission sidewalks are always packed with people.)

Manuel, alleged victim of a shooting last week at 29th and Tiffany in LA LENGUA, who earlier expressed lament that his daughter bore witness to such violence, speaks once again:
I was borned and raised in these streets. People have concerns aout STREET CODE! When I was growing up! The rules ARE! NO WOMEN OR CHILDREN! Who broke the code?
Has anyone ever done this? What does it take, an automobile? A tractor? Or could a couple of neighborhood muscleheads get ‘er done if bored enough?
And does the city have to dispatch a backhoe to steady ‘er up again? Hopefully Mission and Highland (publisher of this here photo) will follow up toot sweet.

Lydia Chávez at Mission Loc@l reports that a brick was hurled through the window of the Sirron Norris Studio on Valencia Street.
Lame for sure.

Sirron Norris was previously covered on Mission Mission here.
Manuel just left a comment on our post about the shooting at 29th and Tiffany the other day:
It was me that was shot. Im jus more worried bout the well being of MY daughter. She did not in any way have to witness her father being robbed at gun point, the shot at! I hope that man goes away long enough to think about his actions! I worked hard to save money to supply myself with things I want and for one idiot to attempt to take it away jus cause HE HAD A GUN! NOT going to happend that easy!
