Evelyn Lee bartender Denver shares the pertinent details:
Drink beer, play Settlers of Catan, meet new friends.
I’m bartending 3 – 9 PM on Mondays. Come join us. All 21+ are welcome. Winners of each game of Catan will win a prize.
From the official invite:
This Halloween, the Unresolved Love Life of Evelyn Lee takes a trip to the Australian Outback, and we’re all invited!
Aussie-rules Berlin-style ping pong will be happening in the back, and a very special real-life Aussie guest bartender will be slinging the drinks she and Nicole Kidman grew up on back home in Queensland. (They’re weird but good.) Drink specials, Aussie bands on the juke box, candy, Aussie snacks, prizes for costumes. Marsupials. Free!
Tonight! RSVP and invite your fiends!
Now that daylight savings is about to kick in and the sun in starting to set on our glorious Indian summer, that also means that the best daytime party in the Mission will be bidding farewell for the season, but not before one last blowout bash! It’s all going down this Saturday, Nov 3, with festivities starting as they normally would on the El Rio patio before transitioning to Public Works at 10pm for a glorious afterparty featuring our pals Midnight Magic all the way from the clutches of Sandy in NYC. And don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes, because these folks will MAKE YOU DANCE!
And the best part is that we’re offering two (2) free tickets to whomever can submit the best photo or story in the comments that embodies just how rad Hard French really is. Or just post your rad Halloween costumes! The contest ends promptly at 6pm on Thursday (tomorrow), so you better get cracking! Also, don’t forget to check out all the details as well as RSVP and invite your friends here.
Oh, and did I mention that these folks will make you dance:
First of all, if you don’t know Dawn Penn, she is the singer on this classic reggae scorcher (which uses the tritone to great effect):
She’s playing in Oakland at the Uptown (not to be confused with the bar on Capp St.) tomorrow night, backed by the bay’s own ska rocksteady group Franco Nero.
There’s a pre-party tonight from 10pm-2am the Makeout Room, with the always boss DJs from SF Vintage Reggae Society and Revival Soundsystem. Blackwell rum is sponsoring it with rum tastings, if you’re into the two drinks that can be made with rum.
And just what exactly is a Rock and Roll Carnival, you ask? Well, allow our pal Broke-Ass Stuart to explain:
There’s 4 bands, DJs, a magician, comedians, burlesque, face painting, fortune telling and Skee-Ball.
Woah there, you had me at Skee-Ball! Not to mention the free whiskey for the first hour. And the date is 10/11/12!!! It’s all going down at Public Works, and you can check out all the details here.
Hey non-day-job-having Mission people: you don’t want to miss this. At 1:30pm today, a New Orleans-style second line parade will be led by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. They will march from Revolution Cafe to the forthcoming Preservation Hall West location:
Dear San Franciscans. Anyone want to parade with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band Friday (10/5)? A New Orleans’ style Second Line will be held with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for the opening of Preservation Hall West at The Chapel, Friday at 1:30pm. The parade will start on Bartlett & 22nd st. and will run to Preservation Hall West at 777 Valencia st. Musicians, support the band by bringing your instruments! Everyone else, sport your New Orleans gear and noisemakers for this historical event
Grab your banjos and head on down!
I somehow managed to get tipped off about this from a well-informed friend in Chicago. Go figure.

Free Treasure Island tickets are always a fun thing to win, but this whole event sounds pretty dope:
Every other tuesday, we all drink some beer, babes of both persuasions come out and we play with balls, bingo balls. I’m calling balls with some friends, put out some bingo snacks and yall win free drinks and rad prizes while we get a lil rowdy.
[Today] Tuesday October 2nd, we’re hosting a Treasure Island Music Festival Edition Bingo. I set up a sweet ass DIY Summer Camp at the festival, this is our 4th year and we are mega stoked. So we’re giving a
way some fun shit:
-camp prizes (slingshots, tube socks & more)
-Flava Flav clock and other prizes inspired by the bands
-as well as some tickets to Treasure Island
And yeah, our boy Luke (who some of you apparently want to finger) will be behind the bar. RSVP and invite your friends!
P.S. Check out the Treasure Island lineup here. And note that a series of related night shows at venues around town were recently announced, so even if you can’t make the festival, maybe you can still catch a band or two you like.
Reggae and grass: what a pair. I’m talking about the kind that you sit on in Dolores Park, of course, but I’m sure you won’t have any trouble finding the other kind while you’re there.
Tomorrow, some of SF’s finest purveyors of vintage rocksteady, ska, and early reggae 45s from the SF Vintage Reggae Society will be spinning in the park, live soundsystem style. We’re talking early reggae, folks. So you’re not gonna be hearing no Bob Marley’s Legend. No diss to that, but it’s not what all reggae sounds like.
2pm til the cops come. More on facebook. And here’s a cut to tide you over:
Cardboard Castles may not have has many sick beats as Crystal Castles, but one thing it does have is something rad happening this weekend to fulfill pretty much every childhood fantasy you’ve ever had:
Hundreds of cardboard boxes have been painted to look like giant Lego pieces and strategically covered with velcro. At 12 PM in Dolores Park on September 29th, you can build anything you can possibly imagine with them.
The event will be free and open to the public, and will last until people get bored (never) or the authorities intervene!
Or until the gutter punks hold a mosh pit inside one! But seriously, this sounds like a pretty awesome way to spend an Indian summer Saturday and you can find out more about the project here.
Don’t forget to RSVP and invite your friends!
