LCD Soundsystem movie and pre-party reminder (and a little LCD Soundsystem flashback)

Such lovely posters! The yellow one will be for sale at the screening tonight, fyi.

Now let’s have a little flashback to another time LCD Soundsystem made Mission Mission. It was Treasure Island Music Festival 2010, the band was on tour behind “This Is Happening,” and it was real cold out:

“I’m used to there being a partially nude man next to me on stage,” Murphy says, referring to drummer Pat Mahoney’s penchant for short shorts. Last night on Treasure Island, where it was cold as grim death, Mahoney wore jeans, to the chagrin of short-shorts fans the island over.

Read on for more on the show and a pic of Murphy gesturing at a fully clothed Mahoney.

More importantly, tonight the LCD Soundsystem movie Shut Up and Play the Hits screens again at the Roxie, 11pm. And there’s yet another pre-party too, beginning at 9pm at Dalva. THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

Also, SFist made a big nice post about all of this, so you might want to get advance tickets.

Finally, if you’re like me and having a hard time waking up right now, this is dedicated to you:

Thanks, Matt!

LCD Soundsystem movie screenings to be preceded by pre-parties at Dalva to facilitate DANCING IN THE AISLES

Basically I was like, “These screenings are at 11pm on a Friday and Saturday night in the Mission. You guys need to have an official pre-party at a nearby bar so people can gather and get warmed up and then pack the place and DANCE IN THE AISLES!” So, here’s the info:

Dawson from Noise Pop is gonna take over the music and play nothing but LCD Soundsystem and related acts. Dalva has a great beer selection and killer fancy cocktails in the back room. THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

Did Nobunny actually pee on an audience member at last night’s show?

He’d had words with an apparently belligerent fan, and their conflict escalated song after song until finally Nobunny got up on a monitor and whipped it out, apparently indicating that he was about to pee on the person if the person didn’t leave. I thought he was just miming the action, but the internet is speculating otherwise.

Anyway it was a great show otherwise. One highlight was the very angry, 50-second hit “Assholes.” (It was great both times they played it.)

Flashback to 15 years ago: When Kilowatt had live shows, and the last one ever was headlined by the Oblivians

I guess I never unsubscribed from the Craigslist “oblivians” search I set up when I was trying to get tickets to their sold-out appearance at Budget Rock a couple years back. This popped up today:

Oblivions Concert Poster – s/n by Alan Forbes – $40 (oakland piedmont / montclair)

Awesome poster for a show by the Oblivians in San Francisco – 1997 for the Kilowatt’s Last Live Show – playing with Vectors and Infections. Signed and numbered by the great artist Alan Forbes (#489/500) The poster is in VG cond., but was stuck on the wall so has small tears in the back corners. The front looks great, only has a few tiny marks and minor edgewear in some spots. measures 23 x 17.25

Trippy that 1997 was 15 years ago, right? And that Kilowatt used to do shows? And that awesome garage rock was happening here well before Thee Oh Sees and Ty? Anyway here comes an Oblivians history lesson…

Here’s their big hit:

And here’s something they might’ve played that night, a gospel-style song from the gospel-style album they released that year:

That ended up being their final studio album. I guess 1997 was a good year to stop doing things you’d been doing for a while.

P.S. Here’s another poster for the same show:

UPDATE: Oops, this post is erroneous. Our pal Allison informs us that “Coachwhips played Kilowatt during Noise Pop in 2004.” So I guess never say never, doy.

‘The Floor’ by Ty Segall feat. some kids

Ty Segall jammed with the insanely-talented kiddos from SF Rock Project at last weekend’s Indie Mart. Check it out:

Tell me that doesn’t rule.

I hope they do more collaborations with local musicians. Seems like a pretty awesome idea to me.

LCD Soundsystem’s instrumental role in Mission Mission’s rise to prominence

The first thing this blog ever did that got citywide attention (meaning the big corporate blogs linked to us and begat a rise in readership that’s continued every day since) was post some videos of an anti-war march downtown in March of 2008.

One of them needed some music, so I slapped some LCD Soundsystem on there (a rarity called “Big Ideas”) and the rest is history. Please enjoy this blast from the past:

Sorry for the horrendous video quality; it was 2008! (I think it was shot using a landline telephone?)

Most importantly, the LCD Soundsystem concert film Shut Up and Play the Hits is playing this weekend at the Roxie and THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES — and we’re giving away free tickets!

CONTEST: Win tickets to the LCD Soundsystem concert film at the Roxie this weekend

THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

I saw this thing at the Embarcadero screening in July, but it was a 7pm show on a weekday so everybody was kind of sedate. These are 11pm shows on a Friday and Saturday night in the Mission, so THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES (even if it’s just me). Mike from the Roxie is onboard I think. Says he, “We’re going to play it SO LOUD!”

Furthermore, you can win a PARTY PACK OF FOUR so you can three pals can DANCE IN THE AISLES TOGETHER. All’s you have to do is tell us about your happiest LCD Soundsystem-related memory in the comments section below. Contest ends at noon on Thursday. Winner will be picked based on merit.

Seriously, if you loved LCD Soundsystem you will love this movie. And if you’ve never heard LCD Soundsystem, you will love them after watching this movie. (Seriously, this happened with a friend of mine last month.) I’m really excited about this, so I’m probably gonna post about it every day this week, so be prepared. Buy tickets and/or read all about the movie here.

And for goodness’ sake, RSVP and invite your friends!

Now let’s rock out:

THERE WILL BE DANCING IN THE AISLES.

Also, where shall we pre-game? Any bars on that block definitely have some LCD on the juke?

This year’s Indie Mart includes usual Indie Mart goodness plus Ty Segall jamming with a bunch of little kids

And it all goes down this Sunday. Here’s the deal:
