Door me baby one more time

Here’s a killer Missed Connection from a few days back:

To the man who doored me off my bicycle and into a Lexus on Capp St. – w4m – 22 (mission district)

You can make it up to my with dinner and drinks. If the brunette is your girlfriend, she is not invited.

Your tax dollars at work

Reader Tyler B. explains:

Just snapped this photo about 15 minutes ago. When we first walked by to vote, this couple was standing there while two city workers were fishing through the drain. When we came back, there was this huge machine. We asked if someone lost something and this girl said, “my boyfriend lost his keys and watch down the drain. The sucked all the water and gunk out and then two guys got down there and found them!” Your tax dollars at work!

Who is Omer going to vote for?

Lindsey knows:

Last night I asked a couple people who they were voting for mayor.

[...]

But more importantly, Omer told me:

“I’m voting for MYSELF. Now go the hell home.”

Of course. Me too. Read on.

Mission supergroup Cruel Summer debuts tonight at the Knockout

Here’s the official spiel:

[I]t’s CRUEL SUMMER’s first show, a band starring Josh Yule, Thea Chacamaty, Chani [Hawthorne] & Sean [Mosley]. We don’t have a website. Sorry buds. We sound like Sonic Youth making illegitimate kin with the Wedding Present…with a girl singing. Sort of. Actually we don’t really know what we sound like so you’ll have to help us figure it out.

They do have a Facebook page though, on which you can listen to and download their first single, “White Flag.”

The show tonight at the Knockout also starts POW!, Big Hurt and Garden Club. RSVP and invite your friends!

How did Cold Beer become Cold Beer?

Our buddy Carlos Bergfeld delivers the cold truth:

Whoa! What a story! Now what about Omer?

Crosstown Bikeways plan calls for big green bike lanes running straight up the middle of Valencia Street

Among other things. Connecting the City explains:

[The North-South Bikeway] will be a continuous, safe and comfortable bikeway from San Francisco State University all the way to Aquatic Park linking important civic institutions like City College and City Hall along the way. On this route, you experience the unique flavor of San Francisco neighborhoods such as Glen Park, the Mission and Polk Street and the diverse local shops and restaurants that will benefit from this bikeway. Calmer streets, an improved pedestrian experience and bringing more people to local businesses will make these streets and neighborhoods better for everyone.

Get into the Asian Art Museum for free and also save lives

Asian Art Museum Blog explains:

This weekend the museum is hosting  a special event at our Target Free Sunday. Be The Match Marrow Registry, a nonprofit organization that matches patients with unrelated bone marrow donors, will be conducting registrations at the museum—complete with cheek cell swabbing!

Why? Great question. Be The Match approached the museum because they have a shortage of South Asian donors in their registry. Bay Area entrepreneur Amit Gupta shared his experience:

Two weeks ago I got a call from my doctor because I’d been feeling worn out and was losing weight, and wasn’t sure why. He was brief: “Amit, you’ve got acute leukemia. You need to enter treatment right away.” I have a couple more months of chemo to go, and then the next step is a bone marrow transplant. Minorities are severely underrepresented in the bone marrow pool, and I need help.

With the Maharaja exhibition in full swing and Sanjay Patel’s show opening next week, the museum is quite a hub for South Asian cultural happenings right now. Be The Match thought it would be a great opportunity to reach out to the South Asian community, and we agreed.

Volunteers from Be The Match will be at the museum from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm this Sunday, November 6. No matter what your background, Be The Match would be grateful for your participation!

Read on for further info, and for goodness’ sake take advantage of this opportunity.

Haçeteria celebrates its one-year haçiversary tonight at Deco Lounge with special guest C.L.A.W.S.

In case you didn’t notice, the big beats being dropped last night at the ping pong block party came courtesy of the Haçeteria crew. They’ve held it down at several ping pong events now, and their sets have been uniformly bangin’.

They have their own night once a month at Deco Lounge on Larkin (just down the block from Saigon Sandwich), and it is also bangin’. Tonight they celebrate their one-year anniversary with a special guest live set from C.L.A.W.S. AKA Can’t Live Anywhere Without Sandwiches (best acronym ever, right?) AKA Brian Hock AKA the drummer from Bronze AKA former member of the Vanishing. Here’s a free sample:

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
