Oh, That’s Interesting…

In a post that explains how whereas getting hit on in New York is pretty routine, getting hit on in San Francisco is a whole ‘nother story, Leah relates the story of some random sketchy dude (not pictured) hitting on her on Muni the other day:

I WAS SITTING ON THE 33 BUS HEADING TOWARD CASTRO STREET TO TRANSFER TO THE 24. I GET OUT MY PHONE TO TEXT INDIA, AND THE GUY SITTING TWO SEATS DOWN POKES ME ON THE ARM, AND I’M IMMEDIATELY THROWN OFF BECAUSE PEOPLE DON’T TOUCH YOU IN NEW YORK. I LOOK OVER, AND HE HAS HIS PHONE OUT, AND HE’S LIKE “OH, THAT’S INTERESTING. WE HAVE THE SAME PHONE.”

Bike Thief Trades Up

Reader Clay W. needs our help:

I walked outside of Mission Cliffs and my Specialized Langster had been freshly stolen! The cable that locked my bike to the poll was laying on the ground. Right next to it was a cruiser bike with leather handlebars and the lights still blinking (whoever stole my bike took the time to put the kickstand up). I waited around for 15 minutes and talked to people at the scene who agreed that I should take the cruiser.

Now I have a new cruiser bike that was probably stolen from some poor hipster girl. What’s the ethical thing to do in this situation??

I’m pretty sure this shady CL add is for my stolen bike.

Mission Apartment or New Bike Shop?

Is this a picture from a new bike shop? Reader Olivia explains:

…this deserves some public recognition! a bike rack that my two friends built in their mission dolores apartment.

I know at least two apartments (you know who you are!) that would benefit greatly from this sort of arrangement. The commonly-used doorway bike pile is not a scalable system. It’s designed for quick deposit, not retrieval.

Got a better way? Send us a picture or explain in the comments.

Tree Crime Scene

A tree identified as Douglas Fir was found dead on 20th and Folsom this morning. Early reports indicate cause of death was dehydration after the victim was dismembered and forced to stand upright using an elaborate anchoring mechanism. Scarring on the limbs detail that the victim was bound with electrical wire and forced to wear weighted objects during this agonizing period of torture.

The perpetrators are still at large and their motive is still unknown.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams

Busted up sports trophies were strewn all up and down a section of York Street last night. It was not a pretty sight.

Once upon a time, 1999 seemed like the distant future. Now it’s ancient history.

I Think I Stop You

Exactly.

Dramatic Muni Accident at 24th and Mission

The 49 Van Ness-Mission seems to have plowed into a bus shelter. The tip and photos come from reader Blake via his friend Renna’s Facebook page. He says “One comment reminded that this is yet another reason to not eat at Farolito. Truth.”

Yikes. Anyone else see this? Hoping nobody was hurt.

(thanks, Blake!)

UPDATE: Commenter “Mulch” says “I was on the bus. No injuries. I talked to a guy who had just got up from the shelter. He said the bus just suddenly swerved into the curb. It also hit the light post right in front of it.”

More updates in the comments, including the guy from the shelter.

A 20-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting in San Francisco’s Mission Dolores neighborhood on Friday night, one of two that occurred that night.
