Yesterday’s Orange Alley party was a success. Lots of new murals are up, including this high-concept choose-your-own-adventure-style one starring Shitty Kitty and Godzilla. Burrito Justice has closeups and further evidence of the alley’s transformation:

SFPD has released new specifics on the vehicle alleged to have mowed down a father-son cycling team on Valencia a while back. Says one of the victims:

We are on the lookout for a gray or silver SUV, probably a toyota or lexus, with a CA vanity plate containing a heart ♥ symbol in it (as in ” I ♥ RUNNING RED LIGHTS”).

It’s mid July and the place is still empty. In fact there have been several stores shutter in the past few months in this area. Hey Chicken, maybe you can do some good for our neighborhood and open up a store? Bring some vibrancy back to our area? We love your creativity. Are you ready to take on something new, or are you going to keep sitting on your ass?

Two of our favorite photographers in the world teamed up yesterday to shoot Mission Street. Mission Local had the resulting slide show up and at ‘em first thing this morning:

This afternoon from 1-5pm, there’s a party in Orange Alley. The fine folks at Receiver are hosting:

We’ll have the grills going as well (meato, non-meato), so bring something to char and/or to drink! [...]

Some reasons to come:

* Sunday will be the last weekend day to view Sarah Applebaum’s show “Soft Core”. Check it out before we take it down!
* Porous Walker (AKA Jimmy DiMarcellis) will be there painting up a mural.
* Kyle Ranson’s band, Pale Hoarse, will play a set.
* Charlie Callahan (that’s him up there working on his mural) might also be around playing some fine tunes.

Mission Mission reader “Stucco Sux” brings us news of Tower Theater’s new asking price:

FYI, Tower Theater on Mission near 20th is up for sale. Asking price: $1,988,000.

Still largely intact inside according to the listing. What a fun tour that would be to take with the realtor. I wish someone would check it out and take lots of pictures…

Closed as a theater in 1996 — the last one on Mission to close. Used as a church until 2005. Apparently there were murals inside that were painted over. Some photos of the old interior, and random trivia here.
