Again?

Dear BART: it’s not like society just invented escalators. This is a fairly well-understood technology, used world-wide.

How many dedicated escalator repair personnel do you have? How many spare parts do you hold onsite? Why does this escalator keep breaking?

As a completely unfair comparison, I present you the much bigger (and very deep) Moscow subway. Not only are the stations prettier, but they keep the escalators running:

How do you keep them running?

“People,” Likhachev says. His division has a staff of 3,000. It has workers posted at every station during operating hours. It has a 20-member emergency rapid response team. It also has its own factory churning out spare parts, “so we don’t have to rely on suppliers.”

This is not to say that all escalators work all the time, because they don’t. But let’s be clear about one thing: “We do not have escalators out of order,” Likhachev says. “We close some for repair.”

Bummer! This lineup rules! Apparently the band will continue to be a band, but in a different form. (I hear somebody is moving to LA or something? Boo.) Anyway, tomorrow at Phono del Sol is your last chance to see this beloved local band in its current beloved form, so get tickets quick (especially since they’re so cheap).

I mean, for graphic design reasons alone, you want to try this beer. But it’s also really really good, a hoppy pale ale made by a Swede in Belgium I think. (Hop flavors and aromas, but not a lot of bitterness.) Available now at Cervecería de MateVeza across from Dolores Park.

From Bi-Rite. Highly recommended. Seen here, it’s swirled with chocolate, but I really wished I’d gotten 100% malted coconut. Malted coconut. Malted coconut. Yummmmmmm. (Plus, doy, the soft serve line is so much shorter than the other line.)

I’ve only visited Dear Mom for the booze, but I’m well-aware that they also serve food. The problem is that those weekly pop-up dinners, as crazy and creative as they are, are pretty heavy on the meat and cheese. That’s all good for my omnivorous friends, but for a vegan lush like myself, I need something to stabilize all that Maker’s. Sad Vegan™ no more:  This Saturday, Hella Vegan Eats is hosting a pop up dinner and I’m hella excited.

This is one of those things that seems like it’s supposed to answer something, but really it just brings up a lot of questions.

Eater SF has a great quote from Little Chihuahua’s owner:
