Girls and Graffiti

Somebody started a new meme this week: “Girls posing in front of graffiti murals.” It’s big. It’s all over the internet.

Walklet Needs Your Help!

See all those empty planter boxes? The Walklet crew will be filling them with plants this afternoon, but they need some volunteers to help out. This is an historic thing folks; help make history! 1:30-4ish, 22nd Street between Mission and Valencia.

Hidden Gem

Serious writer Jen Gann delivers some important foodie news:

There’s a great hidden gem restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission district (where I live)!

It’s called McDonald’s and it’s right across from the BART station.

Read on if you want to know what’s so great about this place.

Molly Ringwald Sighting at Delfina

Happy birthday, Plumpy! (Our old pal Plumpy saw M.F. Ringwald yesterday):

So remember when Jane Lynch ate at Delfina Pizzeria a few weeks ago? Well, today Molly Fucking Ringwald was there. Awesome. I was eating with my friend who works there (it’s my birthday, so yes, I totally made my friend eat at her own work) and she confirmed it with the other employees. I didn’t get a photo because I’m not trying to be a creepster, though. So maybe this isn’t solid enough to go on the blog.

Au contraire, mon frere!

The Babies

The Babies are going to be big, you guys. They’re from New York, they’re cute, their music rules, they have a song called “Breakin’ the Law,” and they sing into dirty laundry instead of microphones. I went to Sacramento last night and saw them play in somebody’s garage and it was awesome.

Tonight they’re playing a house show in Oakland, and tomorrow they’re playing at Li Po. This will be like seeing LCD Soundsystem open for !!! at the Independent before anyone had ever heard of them. Now’s your chance!

Plus, look how rad their west coast tour shirt is:

Go see the Babies!

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
