Instead of going all the way to SFO to rent a car, rent one from this guy instead

I swear, renting a car in this city is one of the most inconvenient activities one can do.  You have to take BART all the way down to SFO ($10), deal with the airport crowds, and finally hope that you’re driving down south for whatever it is you’re doing because otherwise you’ll have to backtrack all the way back north to and through the city.

City Car Share and Zipcar are doing a pretty good job of filling the gaping hole left by the unpleasant rental car experience, but this entrepreneur has taken it one step further by cutting out the middleman entirely!  Just try to do a better parking job when you return it.

If that Jack Spade store had actually succeeded in moving to the Mission, it’d be closing right now

While I don’t think this news factored at all in their decision to abandon plans to open a store in the old Adobe Books location, it’s still kind of funny.

After just two years on the market, Kate Spade Saturday — Kate Spade‘s lower-priced, more casual offshoot — is closing all 19 of its stores. Jack Spade, Kate Spade & Company’s 22-year-old menswear brand, is also shuttering all 12 of its stores. Stores will close gradually over the first half of 2015, and Kate Spade Saturday’s e-commerce site will remain active during that time.

Ewok thoughts while waiting at the 24th/Mission BART station

“That R2D2 dude is actually kind of a dick.”

Or maybe it’s a Mogwai (from that movie Gremlins), in which case he’s probably wondering if it’s past his snack time yet.

Oooh, or maybe it’s a Moblin, and he’s wondering why he NEVER runs out of spears to throw at that dumb little elf kid dressed in green!

Regardless, they’re probably ALL wondering why BART is so goddamn late.

Zeitgeist palm tree

We were surprised and bummed to hear that our pals over at the Bold Italic suddenly closed up shop, but it was heartening to see that even the bartenders at Zeitgeist, typically known for their gruff demeanor, felt the urge to usher them off on their unplanned vacation with this nice little treat.

Emo night at the Knockout this Friday!

We know how much you miss Diary, the original Mission emo night at Pop’s that sadly is no more, but rather than get all emo about it, now you’ve got another chance to sing along too loudly to Understanding in a Car Crash at the Knockout every month with Make Me a Mixtape!

Come and party like it’s 1997!

Playing the best 90s/00s old school emo, punk and post-hardcore tunes. All vinyl!

Friday 6-9pm

And the best part is they’re not even trying to trademark the term “Emo Night” like those doofuses down in LA.

Also, after the last American Football tune drowns out, go grab a couple tacos at Cancun and then pop back to the Knockout for Primo’s Oldies Night!  Look at that, I just planned out your whole Friday night.  Now do it to it!

Star Wars condom wrapper or Star Wars fruitsnacks?

YOU BE THE JUDGE!

Both possibilities present their own set of unexplained questions.  For instance, what does a wookie taste like?  Some would even say that Star Wars condoms are themselves a paradox, but given enough time and enough galaxies (some far far away), odds are that they would eventually find their way onto some Jedi’s lightsaber.

Lost Weekend Video’s rad new plan to ally with Oakland’s 1234Go! Records

Well, this is some GRAND news!  Instead of having to close their doors for good in May as they previously feared, they’re going full Voltron:

First, Lost Weekend, in partnership with Oakland’s 1234Go! Records, will be relaunching the Valencia Street location on April 18th (Record Store Day 2015) as a new video store/record store hybrid, ready to serve all of your physical media needs. VHS, DVD, cassettes & vinyl – all in one place – with an expanded staff of enthusiastic fans ready to recommend the best in new or classic music & film.

A little bit of Oakland is just what the Mission needs right now!

Read on for the rest of the plot.

Terrifying Octocone found in the wild

Or is it a Contopus?  Either way, he actually looks kind of cute from this angle, where it looks like he’s minding his own business instead of trying to devour your face:
