Last-Minute Fourth of July Barbecue Playlist Addition

I mean, most of you guys probably already have Gonna Find Boyfriends Today in the rotation. But just in case, this is a reminder.

Also, might as well screen the video too, since nothing says SUMMER FUN IN THE MISSION quite like this video. Anyway, it’s embedded right here for easy access:

Feel free to go back and read our epic interview with Myles too.

Jackie Jones Rocks!

And if you like that, head over to SF Guitarworks for photos of Jackie and her handmade ELECTRIC WASHBOARD GUITAR.

California Honeydrops On Chasing The Moon

The California Honeydrops are the latest band to be featured on Chasing the Moon and it’s my favorite installment yet. If you haven’t had a chance to see them yet, it should give you a good idea of what you’re missing. Good thing I wasn’t at this filming, because I probably would have knocked over a boom mic dancing.

From Scott McDowell:

This band is world class fresh! The California Honeydrops are the real deal: transforming any dull scene into a world class dance party. Lech Wierzynski leads killer a band that includes pianist Chris Burns, drummer Ben Malament, bass player Seth Ford-Young, and saxophonist Johnny Bones. Working on this episode was especially tough because none of us could stay seated during the editing/mixing.

I love that second tune. If you told me it was a lost Sam Cooke side I would have thought twice about it.

The California Honeydrops Talk BART Busking

0th

Check it out. This band is called 0th, which is pronounced “Zeroth.” And as if that (or the above band photo) weren’t reason enough to go see them tonight at 8:30 at Southern Exposure, tonight’s performance has an extra special ingredient. Part of the band will be here in San Francisco, and part of the band will be in New York, and they will perform together via Skype or something!! How fucking rad is that!?

AND, I think one member of the band is MNDR, that girl in that rad Mark Ronson video with Q-Tip.

This Is Not a Ross Ad

Queena over at the B. Citizen just hipped us to her in-depth profile of Abraham Linkin, that freshly attired duo we all saw rapping in the park last week. In it, their manager or something visual mastermind delivers some real talk:

Abraham Linkin is anti-bling and anti-gangsta. Not hard and thug, just dudes like you or me. It’s art for and from real people.

Read on for more mission statement, and the official video for “I Got it at Ross.”

Thanks, Queena!

Bluesix Shut Down By The Man

SERIOUS BUMMER NEWS. One of my favorite underground acoustic music venues, Bluesix, is shutting down. The owner Joe Lewis is working with the inspector to finish out June concerts.

I had a lot of good times and amazing musical moments at Bluesix and I’m really sad to see it go. It was one of the few places where you could set up a show without jumping through a bunch of hoops with unresponsive promoters, lame restrictions, unfair door arrangements, and unappreciative clientele. The proximity to my favorite psychedelic taco joint didn’t hurt either.

Joe is looking to turn over the lease on 24th and Treat to someone in the community, so if you know someone a like-minded individual who is interested please drop him a line, otherwise it will probably become a lame bail-bond place.

'Whoever Stole The Goddamned Microphone, Shame On Yo' Ass'

This was the unfortunate scene at Nap’s III last Friday night. They eventually moved on, but it turned out some drunk chick ran off with the mic to the back patio and returned it just in time for her song. I guess she didn’t like duets.

When I raise enough money to start the next franchise (Nap’s IV) I’ll probably stick to non-wireless microphones.

Juggalos To Mission Scientists: 'Y'all Lying And Getting Me Pissed'

I was wondering what came of Science For Juggalos and was surprised to find out it was broken up by Insane Clown Posse themselves! I can’t decide whether or not this means it was a complete failure or resounding success.

Big Violent J himself fills us in:

In case you haven’t been up on your memes, ICP put out a video recently about all the magic up in this bitch. You know, like fuckin’ butterflies, lava, giraffes, and UFOs:

In response, the Mission’s own Noisebridge decided to host a science fair for the Juggalos to help explain how fuckin’ magnets work among other things. It took place in front of the Warfield on June 5th where the band was scheduled to play.

There are more details of what went down from Aaron Muszalski on his twitter.

Mission Community Block Party This Saturday

Mission Community Block Party takes place this Saturday, June 19th 11am-3pm in front of Revolution Cafe on 22nd and Bartlett. There should be lots of food, live music, and dance performances. Full details here.

Also, after Sirron Norris and CUBA made nice last week regarding the mural on that corner, it looks like they will be inviting YOU to take part of their new mural collaboration! Please try to resist the urge to hide a bunch of dongs in there.

Come paint a piece of our new community mural! Anyone and everyone can come paint their part of a mural! A blank canvas for you to paint your piece of the Mission! Artists Sirron Norris and CUBA will return afterward to tie it together into a unified mural. All are welcome to contribute their part of a mission mural! On the side of Revolution Cafe.

[Thanks for the heads up, J-Lub]
