49ers win prompts Mission businesses to brace for riot

I’d meant to go back later and chuck a brick at one of the wood panels to test their fortitude, for journalism’s sake, but I forgot.

How to make a Mission dog, with Food Network star Sandra Lee

She calls it a “fountain dog” for some reason which isn’t explained. But she does point out that the bacon is a great way to get some extra protein into your kids. Never thought of that.

Oh Sees overload

Somehow I saw Thee Oh Sees 16 times last year, and this week Noise Pop published my little “tour diary.” Here I’m talking about seeing them at the Eagle last April:

This was possibly the best concert I’ve ever been to in my life. I think it was the last show ever at the Eagle, so people were lamenting its imminent demise, as well as KUSF’s uncertain future. People were bummed, but then Ty came out and riled everybody up, and then Thee Oh Sees came out and killed. I walked on the ceiling that night.

Guerilla activists hack Bank of America ATMs all over San Francisco

They turned them into “Automated Truth Machines.” (Now they’re exponentially more useful than the totally useless Wells Fargo ATMs in the Mission.) Hacking! Rainforest Action Network explains how it was done:

The activists used special non-adhesive stickers designed to look exactly like BoA’s ATM interface. But instead of checking and savings accounts, these new menus offered a list of everything BoA customers’ money is being used for, including investment in coal-fired power plants, foreclosure on Americans’ homes, bankrolling of climate change, and paying for fat executive bonuses.

Attempted mugging (with taser)

Reader Noah B. wrote in to tell us what happened to him on Monday night:

  1. I was walking home from Churchills at about 8:15 pm (on 14th street just past Dolores )
  2. I was talking on my phone when a man TASED (yes tazed) me on my left side.  It was not as bad as i thought it would be but def scared shit out of me ..must have been a cheap taser (per cops)
  3. I fell down for quick sec but got up instantly and told him to “Get the eff away from me!” (loud)
  4. I continued to back up and he said to me “give me your phone or i’ll shoot you”
  5. Since i only saw the tazer in his hand, I told him to go fuck himself (loud again) (prob not smartest move i know)
  6. At that time i see a woman coming and i yell at him “there is a witness now and we are calling the cops!”  He then took off…

Cops came and i was given a case number. The guy was an African american male in his early 20′s about 5’8 wearing a hoodie. Reminder to never walk alone at night and talk on your cell or text….they are looking for that now and it has been happening nightly the police say. I’m super lucky!

Biographical Info:

"I joked that living in the Mission would be the end of me. And there were nights where it felt like the case.

One night I went out with my friend Allan to the bar that no one goes to on 16th Street, where I lost half my drink and money on the dance floor. Later we skated down 16th to Evelyn Lee, where I fell off my board and landed on my head as the 22 bus sped past behind me. A sobering moment. At the bar, I sulked and nursed my wounds until Allan put on Amy Winehouse’s 'Valerie.' We danced, he dipped me, and I felt better."
